I have 2 dc aged 1 and 3 and we are supposed to be going to butlins for the weekend today. Had a huge row with dh last night and basically he doesnt want to go as he is too busy at work, says if we do go it wont be until late tonight (I was planning to leave at lunchtime). Aibu to go on my own? Bit nervous about 2 days alone with them in a caravan and obviously I wont be able to take them swimming but can still do childrens clubs etc.

Don't know why you think you can't take them swimming, 2 kids per adult at butlins according to their website is acceptable.

You could probably do swimming if they have armbands or float jackets but I agree would be stressful.

I would go why should everyone miss out? If it's the practicalities of taking two swimming I can tell you it's difficult but manageable. Admittedly my older child was 4 when I started doing it, she could walk along & follow my instructions too. For showering I put all three of us into cubicle & then use hooded towels to keep older child & me warm as I dress baby then next is dd & lastly me

Why can't you take them swimming? I took mine every week when they were 1 and 3.
I hope you have a wonderful time. My partner is very selfish so I always take the kids places by myself.

I had this kind of situation last year. We had a Haven Caravan booked and two days before a job my husband was doing (we have a small business in trades) was moved forward meaning it started the day after our holiday. Our situation was slightly different, if he hadn't have done the job we would have lost out on a lot of money and a good contact so I had to accept it.
He came with us, went back the next day, then I had one day on my own then a friend came down on the train with her DC. Annoying yes but I suppose if you think he is being reasonable, could you invite a friend to take his place maybe?

Also check with the swimming thing, the site we were on allowed me to have two DC's (I have three so had to wait for my friend to come as she only had one so we were allowed to take all four as there were two adults iyswim.

For swimming, get 3 year old dressed in swim stuff at accommodation and yourself. Have very easy clothes to put over top.
Take dressing gown or hooded towel.
Remove wet costume, wrap both in towels or dressing gown.
Wrap towel around yourself so your not dripping on them. Hand snack and drink to big one. Dry and dress little one. Hand snack and drink to little one. Dry and dress yourself. Dry and dress big one.
Done!

Thanks, yes he does have form for spoiling things but to be fair he is also busy at work, he spends 99% of his life working so I always do everything on my own. I thought rules were 1 adult per non swimmer under 4, will check though.

I know how it is. My DH is self employed and all our holidays and days out are carefully planned around his work yet still something can come up to make us change plans.

I now always have contingency plans in case he can't come so I am happy to go alone.

It will be hard work for you but if it is booked and paid for just go and hope he can join you later. You just need to be super organised with food, nappy changes etc. but you can do it.

Swimming is totally possible with 2 non swimmers, as a ng as you have enough Armbands or there is a nice shallow pool that they can stand in.

I'm a single parent and I go to Butlins two times a year. It is the easiest place to deal with children on your own. The swimming pool has shallow areas. It's panther piss honestly. Been doing it since one was newborn and the other a toddler. Now they are five and eight and I've never had a problem being there alone. Not even with the roller skating and ambulance incident.

Butlins do have the small play pools (i think) where it's more a paddling pool with slides etc as well as shallow areas for families. (They did a few years ago at Skegness).

I've just been to Minehead and they have baby pools at Splashworld, big cubicles, it's great! They're the same in each centre. Go it'll be fine.
