Is it precocious of her?

Posted this in Chat but didn't get much of a response.

My friend gave birth Saturday (no one knew she was in labour), and Monday evening she released a video of herself on facebook, holing her baby (looking rather fab for someone who's just given birth), announcing the date, time and full name of the child. She only had close friends and family on Facebook so it wasn't really a huge share, and phone called anyone who didn't have access to FB.

Friends of mine who I've told think she's very unreasonable, precocious and self absorbed for doing this. I must admit, it did come across as very celebish but it was beautiful and different to the pictures you just usually get popping up on your feed.

What do you think? I rather like the idea grin

As my response on your other thread apparently wasn't good enough, I shan't bother repeating it.

I think that I probably couldn't be bothered with all that faff after giving birth. People got texts. A few got brief phone calls. That's enough effort.

Also, if one of my friends did it, I wouldn't notice. I never play videos on Facebook.

AGlass Tue 11-Aug-15 21:18:18

Precocious? I wouldn't have said so.

Uploading a video is hardly setting the IT world alight.

It sounds like a nice thing to do, and most new parents get a bit carried away.

Sounds love
Y! Your friends sound awful, slagging off someone who just gave birth because she posted a clip of herself with baby as a birth announcement! Get new friends!

WorraLiberty Tue 11-Aug-15 21:20:19

I can't really form an opinion on it either way.

Lorialet Tue 11-Aug-15 21:20:22

Do you actually know what precocious means?

PolterGoose Tue 11-Aug-15 21:20:43

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Icimoi Tue 11-Aug-15 21:20:45

I can't see why your friends think this is unreasonable. It's not as if she's making a massive public announcement.

Laindons Tue 11-Aug-15 21:20:47

I think the main issue was is her keeping everyone in such a 'suspense' and not revealing anything much at all, even by phone.

Usually, people know about a birth within 24 hours. Aunties and uncles didn't even know.

Plus who posts a video perfectly timed and full face of make up etc?

Have to admit I am jealous but I don't dislike what she's done and wasn't the one slagging her off with friends wink

amothersplaceisinthewrong Tue 11-Aug-15 21:23:18

When I gave birth there were no mobile phones (other than house bricks) , no twitter, no internet. Everyone who needed to know knew within 24 hours.

I did however put my face on very soon after giving birth and did my hair!

Heels99 Tue 11-Aug-15 21:24:11

Get over yourself, how mean to be bitching about her with your friends. You either showed them the video or talked about it in such a way that they all decided it was a bad thing to do.
Why are you jealous? Of her having a baby? are you all 16 years old?

ShadowStar Tue 11-Aug-15 21:24:42

Well, as the definition of precocious is along the lines of someone being unusually advanced in their development, I'd say that she's definitely not being precocious.

As for the rest of it, it doesn't sound too different to a normal FB birth announcement.

MythicalKings Tue 11-Aug-15 21:25:01

Not sure precocious is the word. Do you mean precious? That makes more sense.

NoArmaniNoPunani Tue 11-Aug-15 21:25:24

Was it the baby doing the talking? Can't see how it was precocious otherwise.

Charis1 Tue 11-Aug-15 21:25:34

really don't understand the problem.

What she has done sounds nice to me. What are people not happy about?

I wouldn't do it, and I wouldn't notice it if any of my friends had done it, but every one is different.

Complete non issue.

I can't even work out where the non issue is supposed to be.

quesadillas Tue 11-Aug-15 21:25:53

Nobody except very close family knew I'd given birth for a few days. Good on her for keeping it quiet for a while if that's what she wanted to do.

Crikey, I know the date I'll give birth next month. I'm refusing to tell friends. Are they slagging me off behind my back?!

RonaldosAbs Tue 11-Aug-15 21:26:25

If it was late then it was not "precocious" at all, do you actually know what that word means? Why have you done two threads on this? Do you maybe mean pretentious (even though it isn't a video is quite a good way to share this kind of thing now I think of it)? Precocious means earlier than usual.

I put on a good face of makeup etc after my kids were born and visitors arrived etc, nothing wrong with that either hmm

NerrSnerr Tue 11-Aug-15 21:27:06

Her baby, her choice how she tells people. I don't see why this is worthy of two threads.

Heels99 Tue 11-Aug-15 21:27:54

Of course if the baby was wearing make up then it would be precocious, but we assume not

laffymeal Tue 11-Aug-15 21:28:47

I'm struggling with your question. What exactly do you think she did "wrong" or inappropriate?

StillStayingClassySanDiego Tue 11-Aug-15 21:28:57

I don't do FB so the angst I read about it here is <meh> to me.

I think it sounds quite nice actually.

What response are you looking for here if you were largely ignored in chat?, why re-post?

TeddyBear5 Tue 11-Aug-15 21:29:07

I'd say you're more attention seeking than she is! Starting a second thread because you didn't rate the replies people had already given their time to leave you....hmm

YUDOTHIS Tue 11-Aug-15 21:31:41

YABU. mind your own for fuck sake. If she'd uploaded a video of her throwing her baby off a cliff you could go mental, fair enough. she did a birth announcement! Its these type of threads that will stop me from posting on fb at all. Takes the piss how you get your life dissected...

Laindons Tue 11-Aug-15 21:33:42

Sorry, I meant pretentious! On OH's android and for some reason that's what it gets changed to.

Another poster did actually say it was quite twattish
