To be upset about the ringing in my ears?

I went to a gig last week, a small, loud gig. I didn't wear ear plugs (idiot) my ears still hurt and I have ringing three days later...
Does anyone have any advise? Or just some stories of reassurance??I've been to loud gigs countless times, the ringing usually goes by the next day, is this a result of my prolonged ear negligence?! Sad
I haven't been to a gig for ages prior to this one, maybe I'm just older extra sensitive now?

The ringing in the ears indicates that permanent damage has taken place. All you can do is wait for it to subside. Never put yourself in this position again because the damage is irreversible and it's just not worth it. Hopefully it will settle down.

I'm sorry for you OP - I have tinnitus too.
It is a sign of damage done to the fine hairs in your ears.
It might calm down in a few days, but it is a warning that damage is being caused. That damage will be irreversible.
I don't mean to be harsh, but you mustn't put your ears at such risk ever again - if the environment is too loud to be heard taking to someone two metres away, it is loud enough to require hearing protection. Even vacuuming at home is too loud for your ears.
Please take heed, because tinnitus can be a depressing condition from which there is no escape. The only 'treatment' is to use techniques so as not to focus on it and just endure it as background noise.
Try not to focus on it and see how it goes.
(P.s. My tinnitus accompanies sudden sensorineural hearing loss - had perfect hearing one day, lost half of it whilst asleep)

Get a white noise app and see if that helps - it can stop you focussing on the ringing. Fellow tinnitus sufferer here, you have my sympathy.

Oh dear, permanent damage is what common sense was telling me, but I was hoping strangers would chime in with positive stories!!
Just seen the nurse and she can't see any damage done to my eardrum.
The ringing is only noticeable when all is quiet, I'll leave it and hope it goes back to normal. I'm hoping I get a second chance to wear earplugs and protect my ears!!

Dp is getting irritated by me getting worried about it, he thinks it will get better in time. I hope he's right but I'm scared he's not
