AIBU?

To have spent yesterday afternoon at the pub with DCs?

We got the train to our nearest seaside town. Not posh and certainly some of the pubs are not places you'd want to take kids, but after a long walk along the seafront we stopped at a standard chain pub with a pleasant garden, for a drink.

DCs had a refillable soft drink and DH & I had a pint of beer each. Dc's thought all their Christmases had come at once with unlimited fizzy drinks and we passed a very pleasant afternoon while the adults had another beer...and then another and DCs were back and forward to the drinks machine..

DCs weren't running wild, in fact they sat (in the shade) chatting and laughing with us for nearly 3 hours.

I know they had too much sugar and we were drinking alcohol in front of them Shock but AIBU to think this was a very civilised way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon?

sounds lovely Smile

sitting and chatting and relaxing as a family is something to be treasured and can hardly ever be planned, impromptu afternoons are always the best.

Each to their own

Bit pointless being at the seaside though surely?

No, that sounds lovely OP!

But actually, I'm not sure why you're asking Grin

Why Worra? We had a lovely walk along the coast first

You were happy, the kids were happy. That's fine. If it was every day, then maybe not.

I see. Sounds fab then.

So why are you asking? Grin

I think it's appalling. How dare you have a lovely day out with your children, show them drinking in moderation, and get the out of the house? OUTRAGEOUS!

Ah, well, you see, I have been judged....

Judged by who further? (or is it whom?) I'm scared of the MN grammar police Grin

Three hours sitting in a beer garden isn't a particularly lovely day out...
Stopping off at the pub is fine. Sitting there all afternoon? Not so much.

Is this half of a conversation with the other half deleted? Or did someone accuse you at length in a curiously stagey speech in a supermarket?

My sister - likes an afternoon in the pub as much as anyone but her Dc would have been restricted to water. Dc did have a ridiculous amount of sugary drinks but it's not everyday

Seems like a perfectly normal thing to do.

Why are you asking?

I sat in a beer garden with my kids and grandkids for hours while on holiday.

It had a great climbing frame etc.

So did lots of other families. Only on MN would it be considered not the done thing.

It sounds as though you had a lovely afternoon. YANBU.

It must have been nice to have a place to sit and chat and have a drink after the long walk.

If they had that amount of fizzy drink every day, I would think it too much, but not for a one-off occasion.

I don't understand the point you are trying to make OP.

I am a little confused as to why you would think any one would judge you for doing a perfectly normal thing.
