To think the wasps this Summer are out of control!

We've had lovely sunny weather the past few days and so we have bee making the most of it and attempting picnics, BBQs and just general meals in the garden. Every time we seem to be plagued by wasps! I really don't remember them being so bad the last few years. I hate them! I don't know how to repel them and it's ruining some otherwise lovely meals! Is anyone else experiencing this or do they just single me out?!

I have found two wasps nests in the house this year. If you have a lot of wasps in your garden, have you checked for nests?

I'm with you. It's the past 10 days and they are everywhere! Someone please help!

I've not seen a single wasp. I thought maybe they had died out...

I've been hunting for nests as DH has developed a severe wasp allergy over the last couple of years, which unfortunately means wasp control is my responsibility now! I haven't found any nests which led to my post, I think they are EVERYWHERE!

I haven't seen one yet. On lookout though.

There will be a nest somewhere close. I'm the last person to ask but maybe make some sticky jam traps and put round the perimeter of the garden and they might leave you alone?

We seem to have had an increase in them over the past week and they seem very dopey, which in my mind always means more likely to sting!

Where are you waspless people? Here in the South they seem to be outnumbering us!

No wasps in Glasgow (thankfully). Probably cos they still think it's winter.

Midlands - had some lovely BBqs in the garden wasp free until the past week. Now we seem plagued.

I get pestered pegging out the laundry - they seem to be eating my wooden shed!

We have had about 4 a day in the dining room window (south facing).

I have bought an Executioner - its amazing for zapping them. I highly recommend.

lots more wasps here in suffolk recently - it's a good sign (they are a great pesticide, and also do some pollination) and they won't bother us for too long now

It's waspy in the south. Noticeably so, we're visiting at the moment and they're everywhere. I have a son who flaps his arms, screams a spud runs around in circles if he sees one so as you can imagine our holiday is not massively relaxing.

We live in Yorkshire and there are not many about at home. Too cold?

A spud? Flipping autocorrect.

Dd has just been stung on the way home from the beach. Thank you to the lovely lady behind the bar at the bull inn near Farnham for giving us some vinegar. I promise the next time we are near the pub we will come in for a drink.

I don't think I've seen any wasps either - well, maybe one or two. But we do have lots of bees, thankfully (London).

We went to a festival last week in a pub garden.Every time anyone appeared with a drink so did the wasps.
Im not rational when several wasps are buzzing around me.
Give me spiders, snakes or bees any day.

We get lots around our damson tree, so I bought a wasp trap from Homebase to see if it would work. It's the sort that looks like a glass beehive, with a trough at the bottom you put jam in...

The first day was like when you put out a new bird feeder - zilch. Next time I looked it was stuffed with wasps... this one

Not seen a wasp this summer. Central Scotland aka as north of the wall winter is coming no its not its bloody well here already Angry

milkmilklemonade12 · 08/08/2015 21:39

But I'm worried the wasp trap will attract more wasps searching for jam they can't find, and then they'll get distracted by me and my cake and come and sting me.

Haven't seen any wasps or bees, or spiders.

It's not been too bad in the South West, touch wood. The best wasp traps I've come across are home made ones. A pint glass half filled with beer, then the top covered with cling film with a smallish hole in the centre.

I haven't seen any.

Thunderbugs are a PITA, though. They might not sting, but the little sods get inside laptop screens and die right where they can annoy you forever.

Yes there seems to be lots of wasps round here as well Sad bloody hate them and my dd goes bonkers if she sees one! We also are being plagued by flying ants Angry they are everywhere!

Not sure there is any solution unfortunately apart from waiting until the hot weather goes....
