and has done off and on for the last week.

She is just sitting on the top of the climbing frame screaming every time another child comes near the frame. And I mean screaming !

I know that Its not quite 8 yet but there are lots of little ones asleep by this time ( or trying to be)

And before anyone says anything she is not SEN and having a meltdown, she is just screaming for the sake of screaming.

I know others have complained to her parents, but it still carries on.

Go speak to the child.

Calmly, with a smile, pop up on the climbing frame and in a firm tone tell her it is completely unacceptable behaviour.

I agree Vatersay, toddlers fine, but older kids really should be told screaming is not necessary

I live right next door to a junior school playground. It gets incredibly noisy at breaktimes and lunchtimes, which doesn't bother me, but the bloodcurdling SCREAMING really does. YANBU!

Actually Mrs C I didn't allow my two to scream as toddlers either (unless in pain obviously).

It's deeply anti-social behaviour.
DD has a friend who screams - but not in my house or garden Smile

I've been a CM/nanny for almost 40 years and it's the one thing I cannot stand is screaming.

She gone in now, but I think if it starts again I will go do my very best Nanny McPhee impression.

What with the new neighbours doing nothing but argue and shout since they have moved in a few weeks ago, and the park behind, I can't wait to complete on our forever home and move

My oldest is two and I discourage it if he does but what I mean is you expect to have to discourage it, by eight they shouldn't need reminded

She's back.

I'm going to have a little word.

YANBU. I didn't allow mine to scream (including the child with autism and before he was able to learn not to I took him elsewhere to play) but two of the local children do it all the time. It's really grating and so different from the usual sound of children playing.

I've worked with children and some types of noise raise your blood pressure and make you think, "that sounds out of control and someone is going to have an accident" Sure enough it is followed by crying.

Today I decided that if I win the lottery I will find the noisiest, most anti-social people imaginable and do a house exchange with them before I buy a place.

MrsC I quite agree.

Yes screaming knocks me off balance. Awful.

Posted this before but my old NDN child used to scream all the time when playing. Was at home one day and she was screaming help, which wasn't unusual
Eventually it carried on and I went out to find her hanging out an upstairs window, having tried to climb up with a scarf looped around. She fell and hit the concrete just as I stepped out. Broke both her legs

I hate screaming!

How did your 'word' go? Do you know the parents? Any chance of. Getting them on side?

Shock goodas

Ours have taken to playing in the road on a blind bend. I keep worrying about that sort of scenario, or worse but like you, if they're screaming all the time like the boy who cried wolf...

I was nice, icily nice and asked her to please stop screaming, it was getting late and babies were trying to sleep.

' my mum says I can'

'Well I'm asking you not too'

' mummmmmmmm' screaming a again

The Mother came out if a nearby garden.

' What's wrong '

' could you please ask (child's name ) to stop screaming

' why she's a child, children have to be able to express themselves '

' But other children are trying to sleep, '

' you havnt got any kids so why are you bothered'

' Because it's driving me mad'

She lifted the child down and wandered off complaining that I am a grumpy old woman.

Still she's stopped now

That's why I get so cross about children screaming. If your leg is hanging off or someone is trying to drag you away, it's helpful to be able to scream and someone come out
None of our neighbours even bother when we hear a child screaming now Sad
I felt awful because if I had got there a minute earlier we could have thrown pillows down or something under her

Stand outside her front door singing rugby songs at the top of your voice at 2am. Tell her you're 'expressing yourself'.

Is there a more annoying answer from a child than "my mum says I can"?

Christ, some people. Well done for doing it. Hopefully mother and child will think on now.

Iklboo, that's more likely to be her Father.

Emily, I doubt it, she's the middle of five, and although the park is safe, all the back gardens form the square the park is in, so no roads, all ( including the 2 year old can be out there from 5.30 in the morning on their own.

"Children need to express themselves" Hmm

I'd have suggested that she expressed herself, at home, with the windows shut.

I say to mine sometimes "Unless you are on fire you absolutely must not make that noise ever again". People look at me like I'm mad, but shrieky noises make me a bit on edge.

That's so irresponsible. Poor 2 year old. No wonder you can't wait to move.

It is safer here than normal I suppose
( army quarter behind the wire) but I would t let my little ones out there on their own
