I usually just use the compact ones but bought a box of pearl.

The applicators are weird and they seem to expand too much sideways and are uncomfortable to pull out.

Have I got a dodgy box?

Not sure, but I hate them. Much prefer the old cardboard ones.

lemonade30 Thu 06-Aug-15 21:54:26

no I agree they do that weird widthways expansion. They are reminiscent of lilets.

stick to plain old regular tampax.

They are awful. Plastic that isn't biodegradable when you can have cardboard that is.

VodkaValiumLattePlease Thu 06-Aug-15 21:56:26

Pearl is my favourite type of tampon, the cardboard ones are horrible!

strawberrypenguin Thu 06-Aug-15 21:58:13

They're supposed to expand sideways. I find them really comfortable and easy to use, I always find cardboard applicators don't slide very well. Each to their own I guess!

FurtherSupport Thu 06-Aug-15 21:58:18

I think the applicator is much easier to use, but not as good as the plastic one Lidl do. However, I can't bring myself to use them because of the whole plastic thing....

BasinHaircut Thu 06-Aug-15 21:58:27

Oh really? I've never used lillets. In fact I've never known of anyone who used them either!

Agree - they are totally rubbish. One box....kindly bought by dh because I love pearls and he thought I might like to try "posh ones" back to originals.

gordonpym Thu 06-Aug-15 22:01:04

I hate them. Just bought one box and never again. Not because of the applicator, but because I leak, which is much much worse!

Getthewonderwebout Thu 06-Aug-15 22:06:56

As far as tampons go, I love them. Less risk of leakage with width expansion IMO. If you weren't quick off the mark with the cardboard applicators they were bloody difficult to hold on to and remove.

crazykat Thu 06-Aug-15 22:07:46

I hate them. I usually use tampax compak but got the pearl ones to try when they came out. The applicator is a royal pita as it's really thin and hard to keep hold of.

I don't like how they expand width ways either. Yes it's better leak protection but they're difficult to remove unless they're the small ones.

Pointlessfan Thu 06-Aug-15 22:10:29

I avoid them because of all the plastic.
How long before someone mentions moon cups on this thread do you think? wink

DixieNormas Thu 06-Aug-15 22:14:08

I bought some last month and love them

Sparklingbrook Thu 06-Aug-15 22:17:51

Nobody has appeared just to say 'Mooncup' Pointless. shock

Are Pearl the ones with the plastic applicator that feel all pinchy and slicy?

PurpleSwift Thu 06-Aug-15 22:18:40

the tampoms i find are fine. i hate the appilcators, i prefer the normal plastic applicators. i dont like cardboard ones due to lack of gripiness..

Sparklingbrook Thu 06-Aug-15 22:19:44

I prefer the cardboard ones, but they have got rid of the little bit of tape that tears the paper. angry

BasinHaircut Thu 06-Aug-15 22:20:26

sparkling they are the ones that have a sort of extendable extendable applicator that took me about 5 mins to work out grin

motleymop Thu 06-Aug-15 22:20:54

I agree with sparkling that the plastic is all pinchy and slicey! I hate the pearls - I find them really tricky to use.

Tanaqui Thu 06-Aug-15 22:21:30

Hey give me cramps- it's the width ways expansion I thing.

Sparklingbrook Thu 06-Aug-15 22:21:38

I am glad someone else agrees motley. Ouchy.

Tanaqui Thu 06-Aug-15 22:21:45

They. Think. Aah!

motleymop Thu 06-Aug-15 22:23:40

Ouchy indeedy.

pollypocket99 Thu 06-Aug-15 22:23:49
