to think Peacocks (the shop) is underrated?

I don't know if this applies everywhere, but round these 'ere parts it's considered to be just about ahead of bon marché in the fashion stakes.

Yet every year I pick up the most amazing, flattering dresses in their sales. They always fit me like a glove and look lovely.

Last night I finally got a chance to wear the dress I picked up in their sale a few weeks back, and I got non-stop compliments all night. Nobody believed it was from Peacocks. It was £7!

AIBU in thinking they don't deserve the bad rep they seem to have?

P.S I don't work for them, honest.

Not just you - I get some lovely dresses from there too! Plus they aren't as short as other places (Dorothy Perkins Im look at you) so I can get away with wearing them with tights for work! Win win!

their shoes are great

Samcro Sun 02-Aug-15 23:34:40

I love it. I get loads of good stuff for dd(disabled) there that I can't get any where else

Happy36 Sun 02-Aug-15 23:36:34

Are you my mum? hmm

She is repeatedly telling me to shop there despite the fact that I live abroad in a Peacocks free country! I have never been there. For no reason other than geography.

So, on your next visit, if you see a woman in there muttering about her ungrateful daughter, please stick up for me.

I find it looks nice then when you get close the material is really thin, scratchy and horrible.

willing to give it another go, though, can you link to your dress?

LilQueenie Sun 02-Aug-15 23:39:55

I love peacocks. Kids stuff is small made but the shoes, bags and pjs are great. I picked up a vest top for myself and DD loves it because it looks like shopkins. A lot of DPs stuff gets bought there too. Ive yet to buy from their online store.

Well anything I've ever tried on hasn't hung properly although it looks nice on the hanger. Some of the shoes look nice but seem to be mostly plastic.

Their slim legs jeans are the DBs.

Love the designs but a lot of the time I will see something gorgeous, go to pick out my size and hate the material.

I do like their accessories though.

gaggiagirl Sun 02-Aug-15 23:45:36

Oh I adore peacocks! Their basics and maternity ranges are great and some of their dresses are really excellent.

LunchpackOfNotreDame Sun 02-Aug-15 23:45:58

Its great for random bits. Keep it underrated as that keeps the prices down

OstentatiousBreastfeeder Sun 02-Aug-15 23:46:12

Yes they are!

Kevin I can't seem to find it. It's a tea dress, they have loads of different ones in. If you have an hour-glass figure or big boobs they do wonderful things.

I love peacocks. I was gutted when our local one closed!

EeyoresTail Sun 02-Aug-15 23:53:48

My local one is crap for girls clothing.
DD is 6, when I looked for clothes in her age range they had barely 20 lines!
Should have closed them all when they went into trouble

I love Peacocks. We have quite a large one in our town and both myself and 8yo DD got some beautiful clothes and costume jewelery for going away on holiday this summer.

Things that wear and last well:

Skinny jeans

Long vest tops (I live in a really cold part of Scotland and I layer like you wouldn't bloody believe. I have vests from Peacocks in every colour imaginable for wearing underneath my clothes).

Cotton PJ pants - I have some from when DD was born that are still going strong!

Strapless bras - I like M&S underwear as a general rule of thumb, but I bought 2 strapless bras from Peacocks on a panic buy before going away on holiday and they were really comfortable and stayed put all day/night. They didn't move once, not even through my awesome YMCA dance moves at the kids disco (DD forced me, honest!) grin

Black 'work' trousers. Really comfortable, they sit well and only cost £12.00 I think. Bargain.

Every time I compliment my sister on a dress or top - she's always bought it from Peacocks.

You see I thought they were great before they were in trouble, now it's not so great as apart from the sale it's over priced.

Peacocks was the only place in my local city centre where I could actually try on maternity clothes, everywhere else was order on line only, so I bought quite a few bits there during my first pregnancy and they have lasted me through my second too. The maternity jeans were only about £16!

I found the tee shirts I bough for the children absolutely shocking quality. They were so thin and when washed they did that odd thing where the seams seemed to rotate around the body - obviously cheap material that hadn't been preshrunk. Any detail and printing on them has always washed off quickly too. I expected the ten pound minecraft tee shirt to last a lot longer than four washes before starting to fade away.

My eldest likes some of the accessories, but opines that it is a bit of a poor man's new look which makes it pretty bloody poor indeed!

Eternalsunshines Mon 03-Aug-15 08:46:07

I love their clothes but there shops are few and far between

Archer26 Mon 03-Aug-15 08:48:42

I love peacocks! They do some lovely comfy and flattering trousers in loads of colours. Their website is ace too.

Mrsjayy Mon 03-Aug-15 08:53:45

Our peacocks closed down about 2 years ago i was gutted no its not the best quality but i got loads there

SideOrderofChips Mon 03-Aug-15 08:54:29

I've bought all my maternity stuff from there and its lasts loads longer than the mothercare stuff has and that was twice the price! I buy it online
