In a major city and central in bristol but the post office collection place closes at 12 on sat. Its open all weekdays until 6 but as I commute and leave work at 5:30 that's too late.

Would it really be hard to just close early one weekday and open till 5 on a Saturday?

So have your parcel resent to a local collection point. Not difficult - you can select this option online.

In our neighbourhood at least once a week it's opened till 8 pm and 2 pm on Sat. Outskitrts of London/Surrey borders.
It used to be as you describe until around 12 months ago.

Shuts weekdays at 3pm, except for one day.
Lunchtimes on a sat.
No parking, massive queues, and inconvenient to get to. But it is because I wasn't in, so I have to go in my lunch time.

Would you want to work sat pm after the starting times some Postie's have?

Why should I have to pay a fee and get it sent elsewhere for a few days and deplay me in getting it? Rather than them providing a service with reasonable working hours?

I agree with you OP. I do the majority of my shopping online and have similar problems with my local PO.

ghostyslovesheep Sat 01-Aug-15 13:51:18

just get it redelivered

Littlecaf Sat 01-Aug-15 13:52:59

It's a private service. They don't have to open at your convenience. Get there for before 12 or get it delivered to a place local to you. Sorry OP, but YABN.

DontKillMyVibe Sat 01-Aug-15 13:54:12

I'm lucky - mine is open to 2pm on a Saturday and 8pm on a weds night. Not much consolation to you though

ilovesooty Sat 01-Aug-15 14:08:33

What is your problem in terms of getting there before 12 on Saturday?

unlucky4marie Sat 01-Aug-15 14:17:17

It's a private service. They don't have to open at your convenience. Get there for before 12 or get it delivered to a place local to you. Sorry OP, but YABN. they have a monopoly and are highly unionised so they can do what they want regardless.

ilovesooty Sat 01-Aug-15 14:34:25

Other delivery and collection services are available.

BoneyBackJefferson Sat 01-Aug-15 14:53:54

Could you get it posted to where you work instead of home?

pinktrufflechoc Sat 01-Aug-15 14:57:13

Not all workplaces will let you.

Happy36 Sat 01-Aug-15 14:57:28

I agree. It is really annoying. I live in Spain which is not a perfect place, but it is great that places like the post office, council, shops are open until 8pm on week nights.

As other posters have suggested, try to get the parcel re-delivered to your house or elsewhere (e.g. your work) or ask someone else to collect it for you. Good luck!

If you have it redelivered you know what day it will come. If you work Mon-Fri have it redelivered on a Saturday?

Most people I know get their internet purchases sent to work. Is this an option?

Pipbin Sat 01-Aug-15 15:02:04

In my old house the sorting office was open from 8 to 8 every week day and 9 to 4 on a Saturday.
When we moved, same town, we changed sorting offices and this one is open 7.30 to 2.

While I agree it's a pain OP it does just mean that you need to get there before 12 on a Saturday or pay the 50p to get it delivered to your local post office.

GarminGirl Sat 01-Aug-15 15:29:23

Why can't you get there before 12?

NannyR Sat 01-Aug-15 17:13:41

Ours opens at 7am during the week and is open until 8pm on weds as well as until 12 on sat. I think this is fine, I have no problem collecting parcels even though I work long hours.

unlucky4marie Sat 01-Aug-15 17:30:58

Where are you people living where its open until 8pm?

I'm an estate agent and often have to work Saturdays so can't pick it up and they have banned people from getting stuff delivered to work.

Pipbin Sat 01-Aug-15 17:34:17

Can you not get it delivered to your local post office?

I get that you have to work a Saturday, does that mean that you work a six day week though? Can someone else collect it on your behalf?

Peshwari Sat 01-Aug-15 18:18:03

Our sorting office is 7:30 - 12 everyday with a late night on a Wednesday. Was a huge help when they introduced that.

Sending to a post office is only an advantage if they have longer opening hours than the sorting office! Our main post office closes at lunch on a Saturday too

Gatekeeper Sat 01-Aug-15 18:20:53

Our sorting office is open until noon every day; no late openings at all

Aridane Sat 01-Aug-15 18:59:45

It is a pain, OP, isn't it? And in my area, the sorting office is on an industrial estate not accessible by public transport hmm

I am lucky though in that my current place of work we are allowed to have persona post delivered there -yay! - probably the only decent thing about where I work (other than the nice building...). At my old job, it was a disciplinary matter to have personal post delivered ( and duly referenced in the Staff Handbook in bold blush)

Notasinglefuckwasgiven Sat 01-Aug-15 19:25:16

Yanbu. Not about the times per say, just about Royal fucking Mail. I had 3 parcels get as far as the local office then POOF vanish into thin air. I called customer service to be told, " if it's not registered it may well get stolen. It's up to you to pay for registered post to keep it safe!" hmm Erm, no. Isn't delivering mail the basis of your FUCKING BUSINESS? Why the utter fuck is it the people paying you who are at fault when YOU steal their stuff you useless gobshites.
