Did he kill it to eat? Or did he kill it just because he could?

What is the contradiction?

One thing is not even remotely connected to the other. You're being ridiculous.

I haven't personally inspected the place my chicken was killed but I'm pretty certain it wasn't shot with a crossbow then allowed to live and suffer for another 40 hours.
Confused

Yes, I agree it's hypocritical! But I think that the world is so big and confusing and so many terrible things happen that people feel the need to concentrate their negative feelings onto a single, limited, easily comprehensible Bad Thing. I'm not normally one to dragg up 1984 comparisons (not a major Orwell fan) but it's a bit two minutes hate imo.

He didn't kill it to eat it.

So don't be daft.

That lion, endangered, was killed for sport, for fun, for the love of it! So Mr North Dakota of the pearly whites could hang it's head on his wall. A wall already groaning with heads of his numerous kills.

I suppose his wife made lion stew, or bear casserole, elk pie, after he had slaughtered this creatures and cut off their heads for stuffing.

I don't eat meat, but I can see why people who do are also outraged - this animal was killed (almost tortured, it seems) for sport. Because someone enjoyed killing things and wanted a trophy to make himself feel big.

I'm sure we would also have plenty to say if someone was going around killing cows for fun, not food Confused

I don't recall ever eating lion meat. I also don't recall luring an animal out of it's safety zone so I can shoot it badly with a bow & arrow and then spend 40 hours looking for it to shoot it with a gun

It was sick, cruel and unnecessary.

It's slightly different though isn't it it and I say this as some one who was at their healthiest and happiest as vegetarian.

Meat is killed for exactly that, it has been killed to nurish and sustain much the same as loin hunting it's self. I'm sure Cecil killed many antelope, oxen and zebra over his 13 years of he hadn't he'd not have been around.

Cecil was top of the food chain, hecwas killed for "sport" he was killed to cause him suffering, he was killed to have a photo and then skinned and cut up! He wasn't killed for any useful purpose he wasn't even killed as a merciful act because he was ill or suffering. He was ILEGALLY lured out of a national park, shot with a bow and arrow kept alive for 49 hours before he was actually killed! When it was discovered it was an illegal hunt they tried to distroy the evidence!

If you don't understand the difference between killing an animal, but for the reasons of using the whole creature for various reasons (including meat), and the sickness that is killing for sport, really can't help you OP. Even for 'meat', any humane person wouldn't leave ANY creature to suffer for two days, a slow, painful death. What this man did, it's cruel beyond anything. It's unnatural, no one except a very cruel person would kill for fun. Other animals don't do it. People generally don't do it, and we're the nastiest animals on this planet. That's the difference, that's why anyone with a heart is upset.

Oh ffs. Of course it's not hypocritical. He hasn't killed the Lion because he wants to eat it. He's killed it because he's a sick fucker hunter who gets a kick out of stalking and killing wild and often rare animals and then cutting off their heads and mounting them on the wall. He shot it with an arrow and left it in pain for 40 hours. He has killed an animal involved in a conservation study and whose cubs will now most likely be killed by another male lion. A little bit different don't you think. Ridiculous.

Rainicorn · 29/07/2015 18:38

Well for one I didn't pay £35,000 for the chicken we are eating tonight.

The lion wasn't eaten, it was hunted for 40 hours, beheaded and used for a trophy. HUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference.
