Long backstory - but to keep it short, new neighbors moved into the flat above a few weeks ago. Since then we've had issues with loud music being played during the day (I know I'm not the only one who has complained).

I've asked them to turn it down and they say they will - but don't. They didn't used to play it during the night but now that seems to have changed. Its been playing all night (its nearly 4am now) and its loud enough that I can't sleep. I tried knocking on their door to ask them to turn it down but they obviously couldn't hear me over the music.

They keep asking me for money as well when I see them in the communal hall (just small amounts Confused ) but so far I've managed to make up excuses to not give them a penny...

Wibu to ring the housing association (who own both properties) when they open to ask them to have a chat with them?

..oh, the guy snores as well Hmm loudly Biscuit

sorry this is happening, i know how stressful noise can be. Ring the ha this morning and complain, if you are close to anyone else who lives nearby who is alsp experiencing problems see if they have as well. Keep a diary and if this happens again so late at night call the environmental health noise control team who should come out. Good luck x

Make a complaint and make it now. They sound bloody awful.

Make sure you mention the fact that they never turn down the music, that they play it really loud all through the night and that they keep asking you for money.None of that behavior is okay and the money thing is really weird!

Thanks for advice.. rang HA earlier. They've advised keeping a diary as suggested, fingers crossed they'll be able to do something about it from that.

They also said we'd done the right thing but not giving money (I've just been saying I have no change, don't get paid until the following week blah blah)

Report them and call the antisocial number at night, or 101. Keep a diary and put it all in writing.

How early is too early for playing music? Its Saturday morning, the music started at 8.30 (loud enough to wake me) and is still going. To be fair it was quiet overnight, but Saturday is the only day I get to have a lie in (which they've now messed up Angry)

Your council website should have acceptable times.

Here you can start making noise at 9am.on on weekdays, 8am on Saturdays and 10am on Sundays.

That is just awful,I really feel for you. You need to ask for the council to listen to the noise.

How do they ask you for money? Like beggars? Weird, what a bizzare thing to do.

Yanbu poor you. Hope the housing association take action. Keep documenting everything.

Poor you. Keep on with the HA.
You have my sympathy. Most noise I can deal with but the repetitive thump of a bass is enough to drive me to distraction.

Really feel for you. The stress of noisy neighbours is truly horrible. Definately complain, there should be stricter rules on behaviour for tenancy.
We live in a social housing block and I am very grateful due to living in an area of very high rents and I appreciate how lucky we are. Don't understand why others don't feel the same and have little respect for their neighbours. Surely you'd be on your best behaviour having been given such a fortunate position, I know we are.

They might be on a starter tenancy. Keep a really good diary. HA might make them leave after the starter period.

hey are being unreasonable so complain for sure.

Incidentally while louder noise is acceptable in daylight hours that does not mean that they can't be considered a statutory nuisance if it is ridiculously loud any time of the day - your EH should be able to help.

The fact that they are HA works in your favour imo.

Don't bother to make up excuses for not giving them money, just say no.

Noise can be classed as a nuisance at anytime of the day, it's the affect it has on those around them. If it's bothering you / affecting your usual life then log it.

Can you encourage other neighbours to keep a log too?
