Since Ed Balls is no longer an MP how is he claiming anything?

If I did that I would be sacked.

£600 a month for food between two while working away from home? Or in general for all food?

YANBU. Totally out of touch (them, not you). No wonder the government have no idea how to actually govern if this is how they think they can behave.

I imagine the mortgage thing might have been a mistake. Shoddy mistake to make, given the departments they have worked in, but it seems unlikely it was intentional.

£655k in North London is hardly a mansion. Don't know how big the house is but really that is likely to be pretty modest.

£600 per month is not outrageous - more than some, many, people have - true - but she probably has to eat out and entertain.

The mortgage payment I don't know - you might be right in which case fair point.

We expect a lot of our MPs - do we also expect them to do it on minimum wage?

I reckon all these "unintentional" mistakes that they all appear to make are accidentally signed off by the MP themselves only to subsequently claim they were not paying attention.
Funny how they always seem to be in their favour too. Now if we were to read that neither of them had claimed for the mortgage each assuming the other had done so - now that would be a story!

The £600 a month if away from home seems reasonable to me.

OrangeVase Tue 28-Jul-15 23:28:46

But are they on the fiddle? And why is the house price of interest?

Bragadocia Tue 28-Jul-15 23:30:04

Quite easily done I imagine, if they alternate who claims each month, or whatever arrangement they have as a couple. The alternative could only be that they deliberately set out to try to claim for the same payment, which would be fraud. I'm not a fan of either of them, but it seems unlikely they conspired to commit fraud for a few hundred quid.

What made you look this up now?

I am not a fan either but this smacks of stirring for the sake of it.

Bragadocia Tue 28-Jul-15 23:42:03

I understood from your source that it was a claim for the month of July 2006.

I can think of reasons to cast my vote elsewhere but an old well documented story from years ago wouldn't be necessary of them.

ilovesooty Tue 28-Jul-15 23:45:02

Wouldn't be one if them, sorry.

As I said - old news.

ilovesooty Tue 28-Jul-15 23:46:12

I was considering her for a second choice until she abstained on the welfare bill. That news was current and relevant.
