to wonder why Aladdin doesn't have a job?

'gotta eat to live, gotta steal to eat' - really?

I must be missing something - I know he hasn't got any parents but does it explain somewhere why he has to nick everything?

(I'm on the sofa poorly. Humour me.)

I thought Widow Twankey was his mother?

Because he was grew up on the streets people aren't lining up to give him a chance in life and a job.

I think he was quite young and maybe had no chance to get into a job? He had no family, only Abu, so I think he got stuck in the street rat lifestyle.

Ah, that's panto Aladdin. I'm talking about Disney Aladdin. Which would be much improved by a bit of Widow Twankey.

Because he is a 'street rat' and no one will give him a chance.

The 'original' tale (as in 1001 nights) portrayed him as a bit of rogue - the past equivalent of today's caricature benefit scrounger.

I ALWAYS wondered that. And also did you see he only noticed princess jasmine when he saw her jewel on her head? Hardly a role model and not exactly a good reason to be 'the chosen one'. And he's a massive liar to boot.
Disney didn't really think that one through did they?

Mumsnet Theory:

Because the Sultan is a fat cat indifferent Tory pissing about under advice from Jafar and ignoring the fact that there are no jobs, and no protection for the weak.

Daily Mail

He's a lay about no good dead beat, but as he's pretty and manages to cheat a load of money by doing fuck all they'll ignore his history and let him arse about under the Sultan, asking as he only helps the poor in a flashy elephant riding Apple throwing way. As long as the poor are cute and deserving enough.

If Disney had stuck with the original stories, most of the films would be X/18 certificates Dangergrouse Might make better cinema though, Hmm and none of the tedious ear-worm songs.

Ah, but he's a "diamond in the rough", because he feeds some winsome urchins with the bread he stole.

Maybe he could have joined the Palace Guard if he hadn't embraced the "gotta steal to eat" mentality.

Flynn Ryder / Eugene in Tangled was even worse!

He also hung around with a monkey.

Imagine having that perched on your shoulder during a job interview...

But Rapunzel makes Flynn want to be a better man. Aladdin lies to Jasmine repeatedly!

He also hung around with a monkey.

They probably both have fleas.

Probably because nobody would hire him as They saw him as beneath. I mean they did try and kill him just because he stole and didn't care because he was a 'street rat'
