to wait until Thurs to see GP re foot instead of A&E? (pic)

I posted in health but thought I would try here for traffic.

WWYD - wait to see GP on Thurs or get it looked at today, which means A&E? DH has health anxiety and wants me to go to A&E, I think although its very painful it can wait until Thursday.

Pharmacist thinks possible fracture, I don't remember hurting it though and surely I would if there was a break, she was quite positive it wasn't gout...

Can't get in to the GP until Thurs, should I wait or go to A&E (it's not an accident or emergency but no walk in's around here)?

Very painful on the ball of my foot, big toe joint and big toe. Can't bend my big toe, limping etc. It came on over the weekend and getting worse, suddenly developed swelling today and the colour is different to my other foot.

Ibuprofen doing nothing, but if it was broken I don't think they could do anything anyway.

The star on the pic is to hide my hairy toes Grin, it's the left foot.

That will need X raying so no point in going to the GP anyway. I would go to A+E.

Can you get in to see the nurse rather than the GP? They would be able to advise on what to do next, or refer for an x-ray if they felt it was needed

Is the swollen area hot to the touch? Redness swelling and heat indicate infection, but if there is any possibility that there is a fracture you need it xraying asap

That's definitely worthy of an A&E visit , although I would have told the GP it was an emergency and been seen today.

That's a A&E issue, no point in going to the GP.

Better to go early afternoon, around now, or tomorrow morning.

It's possibly cellulitis, is it hot? Have you got any cuts or bites in the area?

Report
Twolefttoes · 28/07/2015 13:22

We don't have any walk in centres in the area, just an out of hours gp service but they don't have x-ray facilities.

It is quite hot to touch.

Ooh ouch.. Could be cellulitis ? I'd go to A&E as if was an infection it may need prompt antibiotics Flowers

Shave your toes!

I would go to A&E - it looks really painful.

Report
Imnotaslimjim · 28/07/2015 13:25

If its hot and you're thinking more infection than fracture, the GP or nurse can deal with it but it does have to be today. Cellulitis can spread very quickly and can rapidly become dangerous

TheHouseOnBellSt · 28/07/2015 13:28

Go to A&E it will take ages to get seen otherwise,

I would have shaved my toes if I thought I would be photographing them today Grin.

Pain is getting worse as the day is going on, no marks or cuts around it.

Sure if it was broken I would remember doing it, so perhaps it is an infection. I will try and ring the gp again and see if they are more helpful this time. If not, I might do OOH's tonight.

A&E

It could be gout however.

Doesn't look red enough to be cellulitis.

Report
SoupDragon · 28/07/2015 13:32

You have absolutely no recollection of hurting it at all...?

If that's the case, I would doubt it was broken. An infected bite or something is a possibility though.

I walked around on a broken foot for three weeks. Go to A&E.

Going against the grain here, but as long as you are well in yourself (ie no fever etc) and not at increased risk of infection for any reason I'd say it can wait til Thursday. Highly unlikely to be broken if you haven't injured it. If you become more unwell or it spreads rapidly then a&e is appropriate.

I broke my foot and have no recollection how. Agree A&E.

My money's on gout or cellulitis which need to be seen asap really

If it's not an accident or emergency as you say it isn't then don't go to a and e. Just because it MAY need an X-ray that doesn't mean there is no point in going to gp. They can still refer for X-rays.

To be honest I would get this checked out - if you don't remember doing anything that could have fractured it, you might have cellulitis, which you can get from an insect bite, and it can go all the way up your leg. It is incredibly painful and needs an antibiotic drip in hospital to clear. That said if you have that you should start feeling poorly soon, as if you have the flu, fever etc.

Shame you don't have a walk in centre, that'd be ideal. If it is cellulitis you will end up in A&E (or in hospital) anyway.

Go to A&E - I had a swollen foot - felt fine in myself, made docs appointment. DH works at a hospital - when I got there to pick him up her asked one of the nurses who took me to A&E. Turned out it was a DVT. No pain, just a swollen foot - go to A&E and do it now
