To think these delivery people are taking the mick?

Next door but one and the family over the road are having an awful lot delivered and I'm the only house, it seems, with anyone in during their delivery slots.

One or two small parcels are fine but I now refuse to take in parcels from over the road as they expect me to lug their stuff (often very heavy and fairly big) to their house. If I don't it can end up sitting in my hall for up to a week before I end up lugging it over.

Today delivery man knocked and asked if I'd take in a parcel. I asked how big it was and if it was heavy. No, no small and light he said. Who's it for? He says the neighbours next door but one. I say yeah sure I'll take it.

Well A) it's fooking massive B) it's heavy (looks like a bed) C) it's for over the road so not the family he said it was for :-/ he knows I won't take for this family he just didn't want the hassle of taking it back.

Bloody piss take its no doubt going to sit in my house for weeks as there's no way I'm dragging it to theirs and she'll say she can't come get it until both her and her DH are off at the same time (she does days he does nights) as it's very heavy ????

Never taking in parcels from that delivery company again

Tell the neighbours that they must collect it this evening or you will put it out on your driveway.

But why didn't you stop him when it became obvious it wasn't small and light? What a liar!

And if you're having a bed delivered don't you arrange it for a time that you'll be in?

Put a note through their door saying I have your parcel feel free to collect up until x-time when I will put it outside for you. And then never say yes again! I think once a driver finds a house that will take a parcel they always knock at that one in future as they don't have much time to knock at lots of doors.

How cheeky of them!

I would put a card thru their door...
say you are unwilling to take in any more parcels at all... As it is so difficult for them to collect them from you promptly.

Then give them a fixed time to collect the bed, if they don't tell them you will leave it in your drive/garden/street.. You are taking responsibility for it!

Or-say that you will ring the delivery company and arrange for it to be returned to sender.

Tje only way to stop these users is to be very assertive borderline agressive

I tried to get him to take it back when he brought it in but he said as Id already signed for it he wouldn't take it back :-/

Yep I think I sign on the door may be the way forward

I'd just refuse to take the deliveries any more.

Don't feel rude, guilty or obliged to: to quote Grange Hill, just say No, it's not convenient, have a good day (the last bit said whilst closing the door), the same you would to cold callers.

My neighbours and I take parcels in for each other all the time, but they'd never dream of asking me to take in anything cumbersome and vice versa.

And phone his company to say he lied.

Yup, stick a note through and tell them to pick it up by 6 or it's outside in the rain.

Cheeky buggers.

I may be missing something but what do next door do when you knock on their door and say "I have a package for you, it's rather large, would you mind coming to pick it up?". If you haven't already done this perhaps ray that before making threats about leaving it out on the street?

Why do you have to lug things to them Shock

Knock on their door, tell them it's there and if they say you can bring it over say "No, I'm not lugging heavy packages for you".

Why are they expecting you to do the lugging around??

For the parcel you've taken in, can you go round to them as soon as they're home any say 'I've taken in a parcel for you, do you want to come and take it now as it is blocking my hallway and I'll have to just leave it outside otherwise'

In future, unless you're expecting a parcel, just don't open the door to any delivery firms.

RustyBear · 28/07/2015 12:26

Well, if she doesn't lug it over, she'll have a bed sitting in her hall until they deign to come and collect it...

Do you have an incontinent child/cat/dog? Maybe you could accidentally arrange a pouffe-poo type incident....

Why are you lugging parcels to them ?

Note through the door, saying there is a parcel and if its not collected it will be put outside.

We, and our neighbours take parcels in but we dont take the piss.

Say that they need to get it by X time (within the next 24 hours) or it's being opened and going on ebay.

Also, might be worth writing this all on a nice flowery card, but also stating that the main issue you have with signing for their deliveries is the consistent reluctance to actually collect them and to allow their neighbours (of whom have no obligation to them at all, apart from politeness) to LUG HEAVY ITEMS for them, due to their own laziness.

Maybe they don't realise what an inconvenience they are being, and how inconsiderate.

I'd never expect a neighbour to do this for me, and if I DID need something signed for, I would ask them first. Especially something as big as a bed!

User100 · 28/07/2015 12:46

Rusty - why? Go round and ask them to come and get it (as in now).

Report
Snozberry · 28/07/2015 12:54

She said in her OP she does ask but the neighbour tells her to wait until her DHs shifts align with hers so they can collect it together, which is nuts.

SoupDragon · 28/07/2015 12:56

Well, if she doesn't lug it over, she'll have a bed sitting in her hall until they deign to come and collect it...

Not if she dumps it outside for them to collect. I bet the neighbour would find a way pretty sharpish then.

User100 · 28/07/2015 13:36

Snoz - sorry, kissed that. If she says that I'd tell her where to go and point out she should have though of that before arranging delivery.

More fool you for signing for the parcel before you'd seen it Hmm. Why would you do that?

Report
SoupDragon · 28/07/2015 17:09

Maybe because she didn't think the delivery driver would be a lying twat? Just a thought. Hmm

Report
TheWitTank · 28/07/2015 17:14

I would go and knock and ask them to get it as it's huge and you haven't got the room to store it. Tell her if she can't pick it up then it will have to go outside as you can't keep it and it's in the way. Then stick a note on the front door saying you don't accept parcels for neighbours.

My neighbours and I do this for each other, but we don't take the piss.

Agree with what others have said - a note through their door saying it's in your hallway but needs to go tonight as it's in the way, and you're going to put it outside at xx time if it hasn't been collected.

Stunned that you haven't had grateful neighbour giving you thanks.

Well it just keeps getting better. Went to their house to ask them to fetch it (I'll help her carry it if it gets it out of my house quicker) only for their next door neighbour to tell me they've gone away for a week.

Who orders a parcel knowing that they won't wven be in the country when it's delivered!!

DH has helped me move it into our outbuilding where it will stay until the lazy fuckers knock asking for it Angry

Does your outbuilding have a leaky roof WYward?

Because in my humble opinion it should... Wink
