DD(10)'s closest friend just turned 8. Her friend's favourite thing in the world to do is have "special" tea parties with anyone who will dress up and join her.

We have a box of antique tea cups and saucers in the attic that has probably not been opened in 20 years. None of them carry any commercial value, but they are family items.

DD's friend is practically family to us - WIBU to give her a special cup and saucer for her birthday? It seems like a better gift to me than plastic branded tat. Maybe that is because I am an old goat, though...

Buzzybuzzybumblebees Sun 26-Jul-15 14:32:43

That would be lovely , do it

Give her a pair of them. Nobody has a tea party alone!

I think it's a lovely gift. With any luck she'll hold them special to her and keep them when she's older too

Lovely idea, and agree with giving her a pair (or four sets, though you might feel that's pushing it I suppose).

Your DD could choose which to give.

Lovely gift but I agree with giving a set of 2 smile

Oh, a pair (or maybe 4) sounds like a super idea. I think perhaps DD and I will go through the box today and choose them.

Thank you - I wasn't sure about it.

LazyLouLou Sun 26-Jul-15 14:58:23

That sounds like a present that would be treasured forever smile

I think a pair of cups in a little gift basket with some special biscuits would be a lovely gift.

That's a gorgeous idea!! Do it.

(Friend's mum did this for me - gave me some vintage teacups she didn't want. I almost cried with pleasure, even though I'm more like 40 than 4!)

What a lovely gift & what a sweet thing for your DD's friend to enjoy!

Georgethesecond Sun 26-Jul-15 15:39:33

i think it's a lovely idea. i don't think there is any need to add anything - just the cups and saucers is nice.

A pair of cups and saucers, plus some cakes and maybe a little bunch of flowers to decorate the tea party table would be gorgeous. I bet she'd absolutely love it.

Aww love this idea!

MillionToOneChances Sun 26-Jul-15 16:25:20

Love the idea of adding posh biscuits. Maybe a fruity tea, too? Lovely idea.

CatMilkMan Sun 26-Jul-15 16:27:45

A couple of them with some biscuits is an amazing idea, I would add a note explaining that they are special.

SoupDragon Sun 26-Jul-15 16:29:33

Pack them up as a "tea party in a box" with other tea party stuff. smile

BrieAndChilli Sun 26-Jul-15 16:33:33

I'd get some lovely pretty napkins (with flowers or cupcakes or something on), some little biscuits or mini cakes and a bottle of something kids don't normally drunk like orangina in a glass bottle or elderflower cordial or something

I'm photo snapping this page as this is a great gift.
