...the selfie stick.

I want one!

I'm a lone parent and barely have any photos of DS and I together. It's just not physically possible when there are only two of you and one of you is only three years old.

I plan to buy one and take loads of photos of us both on our hollibobs grin

UniversalBagel Sat 25-Jul-15 20:51:46

Agree. It's like we are in one of those films about a horrible dystopian future in which people are so revolting and self centred and materialistic that they can see nothing around them.

LashesandLipstick Sat 25-Jul-15 20:52:29

I don't get people's problems with selfies. They're just photos. If people think "ooh I look nice today, I'd like a photo" what the fuck is wrong with that

CycleChic Sat 25-Jul-15 20:52:39

You can win won through a cocacola promotion.

CycleChic Sat 25-Jul-15 20:53:06

*one

scarletforya Sat 25-Jul-15 20:56:16

swallowed ..My oh never thinks to take any photos of me. I might get one. I'm a hideous thing but still my dd might appreciate a few to look back on someday!

People have take photos for ages. Now instead of asking a random stranger you can just take it yourself.

I admit I don't take selfies posing my pants in front of the mirror smile

But if you're out and about and want a picture of you and your friends, what's the difference in using a stick?

WorraLiberty Sat 25-Jul-15 20:57:24

I suppose they're great for people with short arms grin

Quasicrystals1456 Sat 25-Jul-15 21:00:09

I think selfies are awful. The stupid expressions, the staged ones. I have no desire to look at anyone's nor have one of myself.

I think ones with own children/some event or place in/group of friends etc could be ok, but just a picture of oneself? No.

Although I think I'm arguing a slightly different point grin

ElkeDagMeisje Sat 25-Jul-15 21:02:21

I think you are confusing narcissism with vanity. Vanity can be done with humour, narcissism often has other associated more unpleasant traits such as selfishness and lack of empathy.

I'd find a certain pattern of behaviour much more harmful than something like a selfie stick. Some people just like to take photographs with themselves e.g. as a way of keeping tabs on their weight, or as a sentimental record of certain things.

LashesandLipstick Sat 25-Jul-15 21:02:36

Don't see how selfies are stupider than those awful girls night out pictures...but I don't spend my time moaning about what photos others take because it doesn't affect me!

wigglesrock Sat 25-Jul-15 21:04:52

I can see their use, my kids love looking at pictures with them and me in them. It's frequently just me and the kids if we go out for the day, I have very few photos of me and my sister with my mum, she was taking them.

WallyBantersJunkBox Sat 25-Jul-15 21:24:00

Another single mum here, have taken loads since its me and DS on trips.

dougieroseagain Sat 25-Jul-15 21:27:22

I was in Cambridge on Thursday and I saw a tourist use a selfie stick to take a picture of him eating a hot dog, with a bottle of coke sticking out of his pocket. He was facing a nice college (not in the photo, obvs) so his background was of a cruddy 60s building.

Weird.

Tequilashotfor1 Sat 25-Jul-15 21:28:08

I want one!

Took dd away on holiday and from the photos you'd never guess I was there as I was taking them!

My friend take hilarious pics with hers I love seeing them

SwedishEdith Sat 25-Jul-15 21:28:33

You can get them in Quality Save.

cocobean2805 Sat 25-Jul-15 21:29:39

I got my mum one to use for scenic pictures and church/family events for group shots. It's given my dad a whole new reason to do her head in lease of life and he lives to photobomb her.

Self portrait in your bedroom.

TheHouseOnBellSt Sat 25-Jul-15 22:48:31

Lashes your user name points to a certain interest in your personal appearance above that of most people anyway...so you wouldn't see the problem.

Tequilashotfor1 Sat 25-Jul-15 23:05:59

thehouse that might not be true. I've not drank tequila for seven years after a heavy night in Mexico.

GraysAnalogy Sat 25-Jul-15 23:07:55

Meowww

TheSpottedZebra Sat 25-Jul-15 23:10:14

I concur with Grays.
I am not even a zebra.

travertine Sat 25-Jul-15 23:15:18

Is it a selfie if you are taking it for your own personal use. Whose to say every picture taken is going to get slapped on social media. I have thousands of pictures of my family and my girls and my dogs. Just because I happen to be outside a pub or whatever doesn't mean it's for anyone else's enjoyment but mine. I need I selfie stick. I have short fat arms.

GraysAnalogy Sat 25-Jul-15 23:17:53

So you haven't got spots either then TheSpotted sad I'm disappointed

It might surprise you but I'm not an analogy, let alone Gray's analogy.
