That this woman was insulting my housekeeping skills.

I recently had a bit of a party for my DHs birthday. Just a few round for snacks and drinks. My DHs brother brought his new girlfriend, who I'd never met before. She seemed nice enough and was quite friendly. However later in the evening I went into the kitchen and I was shocked to see her with a scouring pad with ajax cleaner on rubbing down my cupboards. How bizarre I thought. Apart from the fact they didn't need cleaning, who would do that. Aibu that this is weird?

Cabbagesaregreen Fri 24-Jul-15 15:01:24

Very weird. Are you sure this wasn't a dream?

StealthPolarBear Fri 24-Jul-15 15:02:06

Ha ha this can't be true surely.
Thought you were going to say she was washing up But scrubbing the cupboards? !
Though if it was criticism of cleaning skills surely it was a criticism of both you and your DH?

MrsTerryPratchett Fri 24-Jul-15 15:02:19

She probably had an issue, poor thing.

WorraLiberty Fri 24-Jul-15 15:02:36

It's perfectly normal.

StealthPolarBear Fri 24-Jul-15 15:02:52

And she was scouring them? We have an old kitchen and are not precious but that would scratch badly!

asmallandnoisymonkey Fri 24-Jul-15 15:03:24

That is super weird! I bet your cupboards are perfectly lovely and clean without being scrubbed with Ajax.

Did she go looking for the cleaner too?

buttercupsandclover Fri 24-Jul-15 15:03:33

No def not a dream, I've discussed it with my Dh, he thinks it a bit weird but nothing to get too worked up about.

Shockers Fri 24-Jul-15 15:04:20

If anyone took a scouring pad to my cupboards, they'd feel my boot up their arse.

What did you do?

helenahandbag Fri 24-Jul-15 15:04:46

Anyone who fancies scrubbing my kitchen is more than welcome to!

Vatersay Fri 24-Jul-15 15:05:32

Did you ask her what she was doing?

buttercupsandclover Fri 24-Jul-15 15:05:44

Well yes stealth but he's thick skinned. He doesn't see it the same as me though.

vikihayden101 Fri 24-Jul-15 15:05:59

That is very odd! I am a 'clean freak' but I would never presume to clean someone else's home, especially without their permission!

Might be a good idea to invite her over when the hoovering needs doing though wink

asmallandnoisymonkey Fri 24-Jul-15 15:06:18

This thread is one of the funniest I've read in a while for some reason - boot up the arse! ahahaha!

HexU2 Fri 24-Jul-15 15:07:03

Had she spilt something staining down them and was desperately cleaning it up?

buttercupsandclover Fri 24-Jul-15 15:07:21

Yes I did ask her , she said "Oh I was just wiping down your worktops and I thought these looked like they could do with a clean".

StealthPolarBear Fri 24-Jul-15 15:08:16

Yes pps are right she must have spilt something down them

YouTheCat Fri 24-Jul-15 15:11:17

If I ever found someone scrubbing my cupboards I'd give them a list and ask them to do the bathroom next, then dust and run the hoover round. grin

DragonsCanHop Fri 24-Jul-15 15:11:44

I would invite her back round and show her where I keep the Hoover and bleach!

Crosbybeach Fri 24-Jul-15 15:13:00

A friend of mine put bleach down the toilets of another friend's house and 'ran a hoover' round after staying there. I think that was over stepping the mark. As is this.

bodenbiscuit Fri 24-Jul-15 15:13:04

YANBU - that is rude. She probably has OCD but nevertheless she surely ought to try to keep it under control for someone she is meeting for the first time!

buttercupsandclover Fri 24-Jul-15 15:16:37

It was very hard to know the right words to say to her at the time because I was shocked. I think I mumbled something along the lines of "but they were clean" but she just carried on scrubbing with gusto.

originalusernamefail Fri 24-Jul-15 15:18:54

Send her round mine, she'd be in seventh heaven grin

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks Fri 24-Jul-15 15:19:44

Give her my address please.
