Bedroom door - what about yours?

Random, I know. Do you sleep with your door open or closed? I'm sure years ago I used to have it closed, but after getting a cat, kept it open. Would be so weird for me to have it closed now!

How about you? How about your dcs?

Ours is open.

Not quite 3yo closed if I can help it.

Before dd it was the cat we kept it open for.

It differs really. Never thought about it.

SummerSazz Thu 23-Jul-15 23:20:50

We have no door grin

ThinkIveBeenHacked Thu 23-Jul-15 23:20:55

Ours is not closed but hangs almost closed. If we close it it makes a noise to open and wakes the baby. I need to install a turny handle.

Open, again for the cat! He came before dd, so I expect if I didn't have a cat having a child to listen for would have been the point I started to leave the door open. Before that it was always firmly shut.

All bedroom doors are shut. We have 2 big dogs and 2 cats that are usually wet in winter, so not allowed in the bedrooms. DS is now 17, but even when little would happily open a door if he needed us. Plus our house is a drafty old farmhouse and freezing, so it helps keep rooms warm.

Shut and locked to keep cat in and teenagers out grin think the sound of us shagging might cause offence.

Co-sleeping toddler who could be tempted to wonder and 2 noisy cats with no respect for personal pillow space mean that it is firmly closed!grin

All doors closed. It's a fire safety thing. We've never had a problem hearing the dc but that may be just because they're loud.

Shit tight to make the room as dark as possible.

LemonPied Thu 23-Jul-15 23:26:30

Closed. Cat is not allowed in bedrooms, as much as she might try. When DSD stays over her door is kept open and the hall light on.

CaurnieBred Thu 23-Jul-15 23:26:37

Since watching a fire safety video we have ours closed (unless it is too warm and I need to get an air flow through the house)

Door is ajar - DS's bedroom is on the other side of the staircase and I want to be able to wake up and hear if something bad is happening, ie a fire or a burglar.

Of course, I probably wouldn't wake up, but the open door is vaguely comforting.

Lweji Thu 23-Jul-15 23:27:23

I always preferred it ajar, but I started shutting it after getting the cat. Otherwise I'd be waking up at 6am to feed it. No way.

Sallyhasleftthebuilding Thu 23-Jul-15 23:27:33

DH closed me open, depends who gets to bed last.

SlipperyLizard Thu 23-Jul-15 23:28:42

Closed for fire safety after seeing a film at a baby group, illustrating why closed doors is a good idea. Basically showing a house gutted by fire except the one room that had doors closed, with the advice that all doors closed at night equals more chance of surviving a fire. All doors closed at night except bathroom door (no electrics in bathroom to cause fire).

CocktailQueen Thu 23-Jul-15 23:29:18

Open! I'm scared of the dark. Need to be aware of the dc.

Kim82 Thu 23-Jul-15 23:30:14

All bedroom doors are closed in our house to keep the cats out. They jump all over you and wake you up if they can get in the room. They have the run of the rest of the house, just not the bedrooms.

DramaAlpaca Thu 23-Jul-15 23:30:50

Closed, usually.

The5DayChicken Thu 23-Jul-15 23:32:02

DD's is always properly closed...I'm in a flat and wander around a lot so it keeps her room quiet while being better for fire safety.

Mine is always open, as are all other doors. I'm very paranoid about burglars and am a very light sleeper with alarms on all windows.

MarkRuffaloCrumble Thu 23-Jul-15 23:34:50

Closed to keep the DCs cat out at night.

I'm also a really light sleeper so any little noise wakes me and I keep it closed so I don't hear when others get up. As soon as anyone opens the door I'm awake and struggle to go back to sleep.

I like to totally dark too, so have black out blinds but have to have them open a little to let some air in, so I do get a bit of light in the mornings, which is the only reason I usually wake up!

littlefrenchonion Thu 23-Jul-15 23:35:07

We are the opposite in that we always had it open, until we got the worlds most irritating cat, now it's always closed. I cannot sleep with my cats arse in my face so we have no option!!

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore Thu 23-Jul-15 23:36:05

Open, but mostly because I have two that will get up and wander during the night. I'd prefer to have doors closed because of the fire safety thing, but the screaming from the dcs as they don't like closed doors would probably make the neighbours less than happy.
