Aibu to feed dd lying down

I was out at a country park today having a picnic with family and dd asked for milk. As she was tired I decided to lie down and feed her on the picnic blanket to see if she'd fall asleep. No more of my body was showing than as if I'd been sat up feeding her. My dm told me to be more discreet, as according to her other people were looking and my aunt told me I should put a cover over us. It made me realise that my family support me feeding dd as long as no one else knows about it or can see it.

Was I unreasonable to feed dd this way outside?

No, I don't think you were.

As for your family - take no notice. If they are embarrassed, that's a reflection on them and not on you. Pound to a penny nobody else even noticed what you were doing.

No!

Of course not.

Keep up the good work!

Yanbu. Sounds sensible to me.

Your time machine worked, it's the 1940s! Seriously though, lying down feeding probably shows off less skin than someone walking around in a low cut top would.

It was perfectly fine to do that!

What kind of reprehensible tight-ass goes to a public park and then judgingly gapes at a breastfeeding mom? I would just give them the old hairy eyeball and keep doing what you are doing.

Of course you were right to. Some people can be so stupid but I think times are slowly changing for the better.

Not U at all! Sounds like exactly the right thing to do in the circumstances.

Disappointing, though, that your family aren't more supportive.

You were right.

But someone has to post this...

yanbu I did this once and my dm leapt up and grabbed a blanket and held it over me saying 'its alright i will cover you up... my daughter is feeding her baby' , she made such a fuss EVERYONE was looking at me as apposed to no one before.
When I fed my dd outside another time, a man was watching me so intently he walked into a lamppost.

I'll be honest I didn't think I was being unreasonable but I was sure if dm was being unreasonable either. Even if people were looking why does it matter if they could tell I was breastfeeding? I felt like dm thought I was doing something I should be ashamed of. I have never had any comments from the general public, I really don't think most people care. I wish I could understand why my family felt this way.

You are not being unreasonable to be feeding your baby anywhere at any time. Anyone who objects should be told to FO.

You have the right to feed your baby however you want! I hate the fact that there are topless pictures of women in magazines everywhere but people get offended by breastfeeding! Xx
