Dd (22)and her bf don't know this obvious (to me when I grew up) fact

Degustibusnonestdisputandem Thu 23-Jul-15 22:14:39

Leaves from trees, I would have thought ( at least that's what the circus elephant snaffled when they came though my Oz country town many years ago) smile

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch Thu 23-Jul-15 22:15:00

Bananas

PuntasticUsername Thu 23-Jul-15 22:15:01

Current bums.

That was autocorrected but I'm sticking with the new version, I like it better.

LordEmsworth Thu 23-Jul-15 22:15:09

Peanuts. Obviously. Widely known for it.

Theknacktoflying Thu 23-Jul-15 22:15:32

Peanuts?

pregnantpause Thu 23-Jul-15 22:16:32

Peanuts. Dumbo anyone?

chickenyummychicken Thu 23-Jul-15 22:16:47

Frickin prize puntastic!
It's so obvious (to me) It's sticky buns!!
( where did this come from)

Dragonglass Thu 23-Jul-15 22:16:52

Peanuts

SanityClause Thu 23-Jul-15 22:17:00

At Colchester zoo, they eat bits of vegetables, like cabbage and carrots.

But DH always does a silly thing about elephants asking for more buns, so I guess that's what you are thinking of?

SanityClause Thu 23-Jul-15 22:17:19

No, peanuts, of course!

Passmethecrisps Thu 23-Jul-15 22:18:46

In my local safari park if some visitors had their way it would be Doritos.

However, I think it is grass and leaves and green shit

PuntasticUsername Thu 23-Jul-15 22:19:32

Yaaaaaaaaaaay I win (which is of course the main thing grin)

I think you used to be allowed to take a paper bag of sticky buns to the zoo to feed to the elephants, back in the days when zoos didn't get grumpy about you feeding things to the animals.

But, yes. The argument for peanuts is very persuasive. You could make peanut butter buns, maybe?

Dragonglass Thu 23-Jul-15 22:19:32

Actually my first thought was peanuts, but I've just remembered the saying 'trunky want a bun?' for when someone is being nosey, so it could be peanuts or buns.

Sleepsoftly Thu 23-Jul-15 22:20:29

More recently, I think they have developed into wider food stuffs and it's not uncommon for them to have linguine, Caesar salad or Cornish pasties. Scallops they don't like.

PuntasticUsername Thu 23-Jul-15 22:21:02

Trunky say what now? That's a new one on me! But I like it...

chickenyummychicken Thu 23-Jul-15 22:21:41

I know for me (at age 49) It's the FIRST thing that came to mind
(why?)
Johnny Morris?

chickenyummychicken Thu 23-Jul-15 22:22:28

Sllepsoftly - good 1!!

MoreCakePlz Thu 23-Jul-15 22:22:40

Definitely currant buns!

SeriouslyIRegisteredtoAskThis Thu 23-Jul-15 22:25:57

"but I gave my buns to the elephant when I went down to the Zoo"

Did AA Milne feature in your childhood?

LaurieFairyCake Thu 23-Jul-15 22:26:37

Iced Curranty Buns

chickenyummychicken Thu 23-Jul-15 22:28:20

Well yes I read winnie the pooh ( got mother to buy me a powerball AND a winnie the pooh book in wh smiths !!

ghostyslovesheep Thu 23-Jul-15 22:28:30

peanuts

SeriouslyIRegisteredtoAskThis Thu 23-Jul-15 22:32:35

It's one of his poems called At the Zoo. I've loved his poems as a child and I now read them recite from memory to my DC.

both of them now don't step on lines only squares

chickenyummychicken Thu 23-Jul-15 22:38:00

I've just googled it
( don't know that poem but like it)
It actually reinforces me thinking it's a Johnny Morris esque type thing
- Definitely of my age
Whereas I honestly thought it was a ubiquitous 'thing '!!
