Parents dog bit my 8 month old on the head, 2 bites marks on head and one on hand. Luckily there was only 1 puncture wound and no lasting damage but was so close to her eye! Took her to A&E who obviously need to inform social services.

I have felt a while my parents can't put my babies safety above the dog which was highlighted when all my parents were concerned about was whether the dog would be put down. Apparently I only took her to hospital to force them to get rid of the dog. For what its worth, I don't want the dog put down, I just want her caged when baby is around.

Is she likely to be put down? Am I in for a rough time from social services? I wasn't even there at the time.

Personally, I'd want it put down.

I don't know, but I think you should let the doctors and social services do what they need to do. And keep your baby away from that dog. Always, Never let the dog and the baby be in the same together. Then the baby can't be harmed again. I really feel for you. That is a horrible thing to happen.

Your poor baby and poor you Sad

Did they tell you how it happened?

DoeEyedNear · 22/07/2015 22:05

I wouldn't want my child near them for as long as that dog were still alive and I'd tell them as such.

Hope you and your baby are ok

Blimey how awful.

What did they say happened?

A dog chased my 4 year old DD and bit her with puncture wounds. The dog has sort of a black mark against it's name - so basically a huge warning to the owners to get their dog trained to not chase people.

I don't think anyone can force a dog put down if it's in its own house can it? Happy to be corrected though.

I don't think I would be happy taking my baby there anymore though. Poor thing I hope she's ok.

If you weren't there does that mean nothing was done until you got there?

Your parents sound delightful. I would want the dog put down and some serious distance put between me and my parents if I was in your situation.

What an awful thing to happen, op. I doubt social services would be on your case. No idea if such a dog would be routinely put down, my hunch would be yes. Truly horrible that the dog should be No1 worry here, let's hope it was just the shock your parents had, people can react strangely under stress.

This may be unpopular, but I would want the dog put down. They have bitten a non-walking child badly enough to require hospital attention. Thank goodness it wasn't worse. Next time it could be.

Give your baby an extra cuddle.

Oh Beth Sad

At the very least you need to make sure that your dd isn't left in your parents care ever again - personally I'd say whether there is a dog or not. If their primary concern is the dog and not the wellbeing of their granddaughter then they do not have her best interests at heart.

Why if you were concerned about your parents ability to out your childs safety first above the dig,did you let your parents look after her? It is lucky that yiur dd did not come to any serious harm. I woukd not go there with my child again. Your parents attitude is awful.

Oh I have already said the baby is not to be near the dog and personally I want the dog caged at all times when baby is there. There's no doubting that the dog is never ever going near my baby again.

I just don't know if they would ever forgive me if their dog is put down.

I'm just exhausted from the emotion of it all.

Thats absolutely awful OP. How on earth could your parents say that after the dog did this to their grandchild. I'd not let them look after her again unless the dog was removed from their home.

UncertainSmile · 22/07/2015 22:09

They would put the bloody dog before their grandchild? Fuck 'em.

Oh poor you what a scare. SS will just want to see that you will keep your baby safe so knowing that you won't let your parents care for dog and baby simultaneously covers this.

Your baby isn't even yet at the most difficult age for snappy dogs which is the toddler years. I don't think its likely that your parents will be compelled to destroy the dog but they should treat it as dangerous to all young babies and children.
Their reaction is terrifying, hope it was shock talking...

If it had blinded your baby would you want it put down then?
I don't see that the position of the bite should make the difference, it was only luck that saved your child's eyesight - and her life.
I would never let my child be in the same house as that dog again, in or out of a cage.
Glad she is ok (ish)

Thank God your baby survived.

I'd be giving your parents a wide berth until they get their priorities right.

They probably won't cage the dog, so you just don't go there with the baby. If they won't forgive you, then they are unreasonable. Tell them you'll never forgive them for letting your baby come to harm.

Report
Shakirasma · 22/07/2015 22:10

Sod whether they forgive you, can you ever forgive them for letting your baby get attacked? Can you forgive them for caring more about their vicious dog than their grandchild?

I know I couldnt.

Report
LST · 22/07/2015 22:11

The op hasn't said what happened. The baby might have been allowed to pull dogs ears etc. The dog could've been showing warning signals that it was not happy in the situation it's owners had put it in. You can't say put the dog down when it was the ops parents who are at fault for not supervising a baby and a dog properly. I agree that the dog will need to be kept away from baby in the future.

todayisayesterdaystomorrow · 22/07/2015 22:11

What a horrible thing to happen, I'm glad your dd is not badly scarred by this event. Anyone who puts a dog before the safety of their grandchild is making a massive mistake. I wouldn't put any child at risk because none can be certain a dog will never bite.

Report
reni1 · 22/07/2015 22:11

The question is not if they would ever forgive you, op. The question is will you ever forgive them for putting your baby's life at risk.

Report
nocoolnamesleft · 22/07/2015 22:11

They should be fucking worrying whether you can ever forgive them, ffs. Hope someone's there in real life, to give you a hug: I'm sure you need one.
