He said he had a gift for me in his rucksack.I asked if it was a box of chocolates? Sadly, NO!!! This must be the most unromantic gift I have ever received. What planet is he on ?!
Apparently it will shine my boots :)

I dunno, it sounds more thoughtful than a box of chocolates.

He's a keeper...

Grin

Obviously a practical chap BUT it waterproofs shoes doesn't it rather than shine them?

Sounds good to me

Do you have particularly grubby boots that need a good polish?

Report
Coffeemarkone · 21/07/2015 17:20

really? I think you should dump the bastard!

Not sure what it will do to my boots...
I think he must have been having a clear out particularly as it had already been used.He even made a special trip to the tennis court where I was with my son like it was a special delivery Shock

Does he have a specialist interest in shiny boots?

My DH would think that was a perfectly good present. If you have walking boots then you have to dubbin them or the equivalent. He's the sort who will come back from a walk and dubbin all the boots straight away Smile

Chocolate would have been nicer, though. Has he got any Kendal Mint Cake in his rucksack which you can steal?

Shine your boots then use them to kick him into touch!

Actually, he thought it was something you needed, as opposed to chocolate

He wants your boots to shine so he can see the reflection of your pants.

Great for walking boots.

I like a good dubbin personally. The water just beads and runs off. I'd say that this chap is of a practical bent and will make an excellent partner.

Today dubbin. Tomorrow a set of chisels.

And I should add that Mr Turnip has always been hot on the old shoe care for the whole family - nearly three decades of marriage now and he still bulls my winter boots until they shine like mirrors.

Could be the knickers thing though. Maybe I should LTB. Confused

My DP has literally NEVER bought me flowers or chocolates. He has however randomly bought me for example a cute cartoon USB stick for my work - he "saw it and thought of me", and love heart hand warmers cause I always have cold hands. TBH, to me that shows more thought than a bunch of flowers! However, I'm not sure about shoe dubbin...

What now, cowboy boots?

You should have mentioned that earlier. Now I'm not so sure. Any sign of line dancing - run for the hills.

Talc - I like a man who can shine shoes properly with water and proper circling the polish in.

A dying art Sad

Unless you're in the Army obviously.

Salmo - yup; water in the lid of the Parade Gloss tin; balls of cotton wool and endless circling whilst watching CSI Doncaster or similar.

Not Army, though. Wink

The repetitive small circular rubbing action that goes with bulling boots is a very welcome transferable skill.

Squirm - I'm sure I have absolutely no idea what you mean.

Once said shoes/boots are bulled and in pristine state, if they have to be transported anywhere before being worn, they are handled with the reverence and delicacy of a donated kidney.

Woe betide the person who inflicts a tiny smudge or scuff. And don't even think of trying to put it right because your efforts will end up like Father Ted's raffle car.

would have been a better gift if he had polished your boots himself.
