AIBU?

to keep a bright yellow bathroom suite?

Moving into first (owned) home next month, not much spare cash, lots needs doing.

Aibu to keep the 70s bright yellow bathroom suite and try and go for a retro feel accessorising with quirky pictures, shower curtain etc?? Or should I prioritise ripping it out asap?

No idea but guessing a new bathroom isn't cheap!

If you can live with it, do other things first. Change the really unbearable stuff and put off the bathroom until you can afford it more easily.

Embrace the retro look.

Funky shower curtain. Rubber ducks. Big mirror.

I'd keep it if it's decent enough condition!

YANBU. If you like it then why not? I want to see a picture! B&Q sell cheap plain white suites. We did our bathroom for about £500. However, you could wait and save for the bathroom that you really want.

Embrace and retro depending on priorities. Bathroom suites can be very cheap, but if you don't have plumbing/tiling skills, calling in professionals can be were the costs come.

I would always put kitchen over bathroom.

I'd live with it. Our suite is a nauseated peach colour, we swore we would change it asap but at first we didn't have the money and later we realised it was only going to matter if we were selling, we really didn't care and it was a really solid bath that we'd struggle to replace with anything but crappy plastic.

No one has ever refused to come back because of our bathroom suite.

If it's lasted since the seventies it's probably good quality. My parents had one, I remember it well...

Wait until you have moved in.msadly you will assemble a list as long of your arm of jobs that need doing urgently and you are going to need to harness your inner hippy and love that bathroom.

Does it have shag pile carpet and chocolate brown tiles? Grin

i love yellow, can you post a photo?

I don't have a pic as I stupidly didn't take any, gutted actually as has took ages to go through and finding it really hard to visualise the rooms now. Unsurprisingly the photo of the bathroom was not on the website!

The yellow is pretty yellow, though strangely comforting in a way, like being young and at your grandparents.

Sounds great - really quirky. I would definite try and make a feature of it.

To try and give an idea...

Yellow bath, toilet, walk in shower, yellow tiles and walls.

Huge as well!

Yellow is waaaay better than the rather awful shitty brown coloured suite my friend had to live with initially back in the 80s Grin

You could have Aqua and Navy accessories with yellow.

All sunny beach type colours and stuff.

Make a feature of it definitely - everyone's getting rid of really good quality bathroom suites and replacing them with cheap white plastic ones. You can literally only buy white suites now, it's weird. We went to great effort to source a 70s deadstock stone-coloured one and I love it!

i would keep it.

Sounds gorgeous. I'd keep it through choice not necessity. Wish colours would come back in. White or beige is so dull. Like your idea of doing up the bathroom with a retro feel.

Maybe go for an Orla Kiehly kind of look. Muted yellows and oranges.

Someone on Grand Designs bought retro non matching suite in all the colours on purpose, so it must be A Thing.

If you rip it out you can bet that the very next day yellow will be the thing and some bugger will nick the fittings out of your skip.

Our bathroom (rented house) is a tasteful 70s avocado!

LL offered to replace it when we moved in but DH loves the retro feel. If it's in good condition do the other bits in the house and then see how you feel about it.

Good luck with the move and enjoy being a home owner! x

Agree with Loveleopardprint if keeping it. It could look ace!
