AIBU?

To ask what the etiquette is

Even though I've been here for years I never really know

I've just read an OP that is blatantly about someone I know and it's really laying into them.

What's the etiquette here? Ignore, hide and pretend I didn't read it? Call the op out on it?

If someone is easily identifiable (other than the OP) I reckon you should report it to MNHQ.

I'd call them out in a non confrontational way. More in a 'this is the flip side of the OP's story'.

Thing is they've changes some basics like genders of people involved etc but the situation is SO unique it's hard to think it's about anyone but this person

I'd do what Mitzy said. There's always two sides to a story.

This is where people are going to track my username isn't it Grin

I wouldn't get involved. I'd just report it for compromising someone's anonymity.

I'd ignore.
We have our reasons for coming on here and conversing with strangers and there is nothing to be gained by hinting you aren't a stranger after all.
She would be horrified , let her be.

Depends if they are being honest or making stuff up.

If there's enough identifying detail for you to know then report. HQ will have a look and have a word with the OP if turns out to be genuinely having a go at a real person and has given enough detail to make it obvious exactly who it is. Not celebs obviously, but town, city, ages and sex of children, schools etc, occupations of people described, can all give away details.

But with so many users, it's entirely possible that it's not actually about your friend, but just a ghastly coincidence.

a) Crapping myself it's me

b) Agog to know who it is!

Thanks for confusing me more ladies! I'm going to have to go away and think about it I think.

The etiquette is to message them, tell them you recognise them then you both namechange.
