Kids & false nails

DD (9) is with my mother for the day, she just messaged me a photo from my mother's phone of her with false nails on, long ones (as you get them from the packets/not filed), green, glue on ones. I'm pretty easy going about stuff her usually but glue on false nails on a 9 year old? I can't be the only one a bit Hmm about it. I rang and said as they were on she could keep them on for a bit for the novelty factor but they had to come off before bed, I definitely wouldn't have allowed them and it's a once off. I was very nice about it as my mam is brilliant and I didn't want a fuss but I feel like the bad guy/kill joy, I just think it's a bit old looking/cheap looking or something. Aibu? For its worth I'm not strict on things like this, I'll allow her to paint her nails a pail colour (in an effort to get her to stop biting them), for her birthday they did a disco thing and I allowed mascara, I get they want to experiment but is long green glue on false nails a bit much? It's not the end of the world or anything but canvassing opinions on whether I'm an auld kill joy really

If she's broken up from school I'd let her keep them on.

If she's still got a couple more days left then they'd have to come off.

My parents were quite strict with me about makeup and 'girly' things growing up but relaxed massively over stuff during the holidays and for special occasions.

I wouldn't let her out of the house in them.

False nails on a 9-year-old are horrible! (Except as a dress-up thing at home, like wearing lipstick or heels.)

Tbh I wouldn't worry about it - she's just playing, it's the school holidays. I've a 10 year old and she's spent a few days messing about with make up, all colours of nail varnish, fake tattoos, nail tattoos, all kinds of shite.

The stick on ones fall off within a couple of days.

Even if you dont take them off tonight, I bet at least one will have fallen off by morning, and the rest within a few days.

The colour sounds rank though.

She has broken up from school, just as well as she couldn't hold a pencil with her new talons Smile Ah maybe I do need to lighten up, I'm usually pretty relaxed on these things, like on holidays at night I'd allow a little mascara or lip gloss/glittery eye shadow, like nothing you'd notice but I get the novelty/feeling grown up factor. I told her I'd take her to get her nails painted in salon as a treat if she stopped biting them, like I get the girly stuff and I'm not a meany, I dunno, I just saw these long green thing on her little hands on was like Shock, I did play along somewhat and refrain from saying they looked trashy Grin

My 10 year old helped my two younger ones hold a fashion show for me yesterday (not as fun as it sounds), they pranced around in dressing up costumes while she pouted about in the most ridiculous combinations of jeans and tops I've ever seen. I think she was just watching my reaction Smile, today she's up in her room with her friend cuddling teddies and writing angsty songs in her diary.

The thought of it made me go "urgh" but I can't give a good reason why, other than it's common/trashy, which obviously isn't a good reason...

That was exactly my reaction FurtherSupport but we're not trashy/common at all Grin it's just dd lowering the tone
