AIBU?

To hate Npower

I left them 3 years ago because they kept sending me random bills of different amounts. Finally after endless stress I ended up paying £350 just to get rid of them (the amounts the claimed i owed them ranged from them owing me money through to £1000 int he course of a month) It took me about 3 months to sort it out with endless phone calls and letters.

So I thoguht Id got rid of them. Wrong... the last few weeks they've started sending me emails saying they've sent me a bill and I can view it online , now they want to check my gas metre and are threatening to get a warrent to break in to do it. They won't arrange an appointment unless I tell them the acount number but I don't have one.

I've sent 4 emails to explain I'm not their customer and got no response. Now I'm phoning them. Earlier they just hung up on me after wiating fo r10 minutes as I didn't ahve an account number. Trying again been on hold for 15 minutes and they are now saying they've closed the line and to try again tomorrow.

AIBU to want to find their chief executive and make HIM try to deal with his own call centre, communications and so called customer services... right now I feel like that would be a worse punishment then anything I could devise.

They are diabolical. Really .

Again this bastard stupid useless pointless unsympathetic idiotic company of morons have me in tears

I complained online and my issue was resolved quickly' with no hassle and with a £20 credit as a goodwill gesture. Then there was another mixup with the same thing, sorted out over the phone, and they credited me another £20. All hassle free.

Mine was to do ?ith checking the meter too. They just look at it to make sure you haven't tampered with it.

You need to send them a letter via registered post explaining that they have 30 days to resolve your complaint or you will go to OfGen. That should get them moving. We've been having problems with them for 2 years now (they send us bills for £14,000 despite our account being £1k in credit. We query the bill, they say "oh sorry, our mistake" but still keep doing it.)

We sent our registered letter yesterday....

Oh and no, YANBU.

West Midlands.

I don't understand what's going on. They don't respond to emails. They won't help online or onn the phone because I don't have an account number (because I'm not their customer).

Normally I'm good at dealing with things but Npower upset me so much last time that I'm actually feeling phycially sick at the thought of dealing them again. I paid about £200 more than I thought I owed last time becauusse I hated them so much I just waanted them out of my life for good. Now they're back

I hate them too. They're already chasing us aggressively for our last bill and it's not even 30 days. I also hate the horrible little man they send round to knock on our door if we're even a day late paying. We're switching over once this bill is paid.

Mabelface · 14/07/2015 18:13

Oh, and by the way, they won't get a warrant as a court won't grant it as you don't owe any money. they like to put the frighteners on people

WalkWithTheLonelyOnes · 14/07/2015 18:18

Right if you recieve a bill then you can get your mpan off the bill. This is 21 digits long. Or you can ring up the distributor for your area and they can send it to the address.
Then tell them they can check ecoes with your MPAN. They will see you're not their supplier.
To get through the phone queue try pressing * over and over. Works for scottish power queues.
Tell them that if they don't cease with correspondence you'll be contacting ofgem

I think the warrant is to checck the gas metre.

Deep sigh

I was signed up to NPower by a unscrupulous agent who decided to forge my signature and sign me up. Could this have happened to you too?

Thank you Walkwiththelonelyones.

They are telling me I've got an online account and I need to register it to view the bills Confused However I can't do this without an account number. After posting I did finally find what they said was an accont number in the small print but when I tried to register it onlinne they said it was an invalid number.

I've sent them a tweet (in slightly politer terms than I've posted here!!). Perhaps taht will get some results though I doubt it they really seem to hate the public

in happier news just checked my scottish power account to discover they've put my direct debit down by £30 a month. If anyone is thinking of swtiching, then try Scottish Power they've been a revelation - nice simple on line account,, actually pay large credits back without being asked (annually but even so better than npower who never did)

Npower only ever racked the direct debit up and up and up. I do not miss them Grin

They're a bloody nightmare. It's no good talking to the staff at the call centre. You need to tell them to put you through to the customer complaints department. And don't take no for an answer; for some reason they are reluctant to let anyone speak to that particular department.

They took £900 from me that they shouldn't have taken. Took me 3 months to get it sorted out but I ended up with quite a bit of compensation from them (had two lots of compensation so it added up to a nice sum in the end, but still would rather have not had the headache in the first place).

That was a about 3 years ago now. I thought they were supposed to have cleaned up their act. Clearly not.

I don't think any power company is great. Currently trying to set up a direct debit with Scottish Power; 3 times I've tried, apparently their system is faulty and refuses to let it happen. Meanwhile I'm on a more expensive tariff and I'm having to chase them all the time.

X post with listsandbudgets re Scottish Power.

The staff are lovely and helpful and I know that when the DD is set up I will be on the cheaper tariff and it should be back dated but I just wish their system would work properly.

They're definitely a million times better than Npower.

Yanbu. At all. They are totally useless.
I think you can make a complaint and if they dont resolve it you can contact the ombudsman but i dont know the whole procedure.
And apparently they have two complaints teams: the regular one and the social media one Hmm. I have heard that the social media one is quicker so keep tweeting them.

I've had exactly the OPPOSITE issues. NPower have been great, Scottish Power have been awful (although the people in their call centre are always lovely).

However, none of them compare to the shower of shite that is British Gas...

They've asked for my details so have sent them a message and will see what happens next.

Yes the people in the Scottish Power call centre are lovely. Eventually they stepped in and helped me sort out my Npower nightmare - to be honest they bought a lot of loyalty from me at that point

Scottish Power are idiots. They have credit blacklisted DD for owing £4k on a pay as you go account that cuts off electricity when your prepaid key runs out! Idiots.

They claim she used more electricity in 4 weeks for a 1-bed flat than I've used over 5 years in a 5 bed detached house FFS.

MangoBiscuit · 14/07/2015 21:37

NPower are idiots, but I can't say my experience with Scottish Power has been much better. I finally got my refund for them charging me for a non-existent gas line after almost 2 years. Everyone I spoke to there was very polite, but they kept repeating the same mistakes, despite things being explained in detail, over an over. I reckon they probably still owe us a small amount, but for the hassle of trying to chase it up again, I just can't be arsed.

Thank you for that email address. I will await developments on twitter and then decide what to do next.

Still fuming that they hung up on me after a 10 mintues wait then I had another 20 minute wait only to hit 6pm and be told the line had closed.

They've driven me to Wine tonight
