If I have a break out I wash my face with coconut oil and tea tree oil. I put the jar in hot water till it melts then put tea tree oil in, stir it up use that for to cleanse at night. It really reduces the swelling and dries them out. Dd is just going through puberty and it does the same for her

I dunno - watching with interest. I've been using the La Roche posay product mentioned abovrabove and it's worked brilliantly on the rest of my face with the exception of my chin!

Try not to touch your face. That helps. Plus a product with salycylic acid.

Come and ask on Style and Beauty!

Basically most people can do it with:

Non-foaming cleanser such as Cetaphil, La Roche Posay Physiological Cleansing Gel, Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser

Salicylic acid product such as LRP Effaclar Duo, Paula's Choice 2% BHA (there are loads of others but these have a higher % of salicylic + the right pH)

Oil-free moisturiser e.g. Cerave PM, Cetaphil moisturiser

In the mornings oil-free SPF, possibly instead of the moisturiser eg Sunsense Daily Face

Go back to basics with your routine - start with just cleasner and moisturiser and introduce one other product every 3-4 weeks, don't be phased if initially you come out in new spots.

If that hasn't worked add in LRP Redermic R

And then if that's not worked see your GP, you need a prescription.

Sudocreme helps mine, I also use it as a night cream occasionally if my skin looks angry Angry.

There was a recent thread in S&B re the miracle of blister plasters on these spots. Cut a bit off the plaster and stick it on overnight - apparently works a treat

Kundry · 12/07/2015 11:23

Doesn't prevent you making new spots though - and sleeping with bits of blister plaster over your face is a bit of an odd look Shock

Salicylic acid all the way Smile

Go to your GP and talk about the Pill to treat the source of the problem.
In the meantime, get him/her to prescribe Retin-A gel (isotretinoin) to treat the spots. Anything else is homeopathic!
Use Avene/La Roche Posay skincare.
I have PCOS so I feel your pain.

Dr Sam Bunting (our favouite, Kundry!) describes coconut oil as a "disaster" for the face. It clogs your pores!

I also mean to say - dermablend make up.
Look for "non-comedogenic" on everything. (Doesn't block pores)

I get exactly the same type of spots on and around my chin, rest of face is mostly fine. So annoying!

I tried the La Roche Posay moisturiser mentioned above, didn't do anything for me. Have also done roaccutane etc many years ago, worked for a while but not a forever cure...

The best thing for me is washing with plain old bar of soap and flannel/water twice a day without fail, and moisturising with something light but hydrating (I like the boots botanics range, but am not that fussy). I still get the odd spot, but less than when I veer away from the bar of soap and try other more fancy face washes or cleansers.

The sun also seems to help, I've had really clear skin for the last few weeks and I'm sure it must be partly down to that!

Also step away from the facials. At best, they do nothing, at worst, they just stress out your skin.

Dr Bunting says the problem is we do TOO MUCH to our skin!
Read her blog. Oil cleansing, double cleansing, clarisonics, all the devil's work for people with acne.

Since taking a lot of GLA (starflower oil, evening primrose) my spots have drastically reduced

Waves to LeftMyRidingCrop - fantastic user name Grin

Missed the reference to coconut oil - even Caroline Hirons talks about coconut oil being a major acne trigger and she thinks there are good oils for acne. Personally I'm not convinced - my skin makes all the oil I need and more Smile Dermatology advice is always oil-free and that's made my skin v happy.

Came here to say these plasters too.... They've totally changed these spots for me. Leave them on overnight and in the morning all the gunk is on the plaster.

I get these , they get so sore & take ages to go .

Those of you who use the plasters do you mean the compeed plasters ?

You can also get Retin-A gel with an inbuilt antibiotic which has helped me.

Oral antibiotics only work for a short time. And give you thrush!

Defo, defo, go on youtube and look for Dr Sam Bunting. She's a Harley Street dermatologist specialising in adult female acne.

AND DON'T SCRUB YOUR SKIN! Step away from the harsh exfoliators/foaming cleansers which just strip your skin.

And quit dairy. It messes with your hormones. And get rid of the coil if you have one. Disaster.

They also think a high sugar diet affects hormones.
Folks with PCOS like me are supposed to follow a low-GI diet.
Frankly, I wouldn't mess around with the home remedies - these big, sore, hormonal spots won't be stopped by a bit of toothpaste. Go to the GP and get the prescription stuff.

Someone recommended Boots Naturals Tea Tree cream on here a while back- it is very good! I also found some witch hazel gel there recently, which is good to put on potential breakout areas.

Left, I used to get them a lot, then was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a couple of years ago. Changing my diet has made a huge difference, I rarely get them now.

The gunk that comes out on those plasters is the active ingredient within the plasters.
