ghostspirit Tue 07-Jul-15 19:32:15

oops is should have asked is (online) bingo a scam

iklboo Tue 07-Jul-15 19:36:17

Did it years ago before they put all the 'must win 10 x bonus before withdrawing' clauses on.

Got £5 free play, won £68, withdrew it immediately & never bothered again.

Don't know what it's like now though. I'm interested to know myself.

No idea about online, but the last time I played bingo I won one of these grin I was the same size as me, I felt like royalty bringing it back on the plane. It was full of lethal sharp tacks that worked themselves loose for no apparent reason. Happy days.

I've won £20 online. You do win sometimes but it's the same as any gambling

I've played gala bingo a bit. You can withdraw any winnings (might be a £5or £10 minimum) I only put a 5er on once every few months. Never win big. My nan put a 5er on and won £70 1st go lucky bugger.

Oh, and I thought this was a MN bingo thread sad

Benefits bashing, anyone?

It's not a con they do have wagering requirements some are much better than others but you do have to remember that there are no guarantees that you are going to win so never play more than you are happy to lose x

It's not a scam, it's gambling, nothing wrong with that, just don't bet more than you can afford to lose.

I piss about with online bingo sometimes. I get the signing bonus and get a few hours of entertainment out of my tenner. Most I've won was £110 which was a nice bonus. Just be very, very careful!

I gave my bro a £10 online bingo voucher I won and he won £300. I was popular smile

Gambling's obviously a scam

It worries me that those online sites are now offering more and more 'free plays' - hooking desperate, bored people, basically

FarFromAnyRoad Tue 07-Jul-15 19:56:50

What sort of 'scam' did you have in mind OP? Bingo is regulated by the Gaming Board so as long as you stick to the well known names that are UK based I don't see how you can go wrong. Of course, if you're stupid enough to fall for the £500 free play from Luzitall International then you kind of deserve what you get.

Theycallmemellowjello Tue 07-Jul-15 19:57:06

Well online gambling companies make a profit, so people lose more than they win. I'd say it's not a good route to go down op. Maybe try premium bonds.

PurpleSwift Tue 07-Jul-15 19:58:05

It's not a scam. I've won £20 here and there and i don't play Much. In fact I played out the blue yesterday. Deposited £10 and won £17 my first go. I took it as a sign and withdrew £27

Okay so no big wins but not a scam, no

Theycallmemellowjello Tue 07-Jul-15 19:59:15

Also people tell you stories about their gambling winnings because winning 50 quid once is a better story than losing a tenner 10 times. not because people are always winning.

googoodolly Tue 07-Jul-15 20:30:42

It's no more of a scam than any other kind of gambling. Fine in moderation, stupid if you do it all the time and spend all your money on it.

Fatmomma99 Tue 07-Jul-15 21:10:19

I'm so jealous vindscreenviper!!!!

I'm considering taking up bingo now so I can have one.

steffy1980 Tue 07-Jul-15 22:14:24

It's not a scam, but it's gambling and the site will always make money so the odds are that over time you will lose. Having said that some people obviously do win a larger amount, just have to be lucky I guess.

TinyManticore Tue 07-Jul-15 22:16:23

Only spend what you can afford to never see again. It's very unlikely you'll win anything, and you need to be careful with it.

I have signed up to a few through cash back sites because I make more money back in cashbsck than I have to spend, I don't have an addictive personality though or I definitely wouldn't go near them. I expect to see nothing back from the website and anything I do get is a bonus. Cashback in the past has been £30 for £10 deposit etc so its an easy £20 providing you can stick to the minimum amount necessary to get the Cashback
