AIBU?

To think my husband is at fault here?

Husband has a track record of ruining my clothes by either washing whites with colours or tumble drying everything. He has no need to get involved in my washing at all and I gave up washing his clothes a few years ago when he couldn't be bothered to even make sure they made it into the laundry basket. This morning he suddenly realises that he has no clothes so needs to do some washing, he finds a load of mine in the machine which has been there for a couple of days. He takes it all out and puts it in the tumble dryer and then asks me to take out the things I don't want tumbled. I go to the tumble dryer and notice that it all smells and needs re-washing and tell him so and as I was going out ask him to re-wash it when his wash is finished. At the same time I put some new clothes on the utility room floor which are dry. Instead of re-washing the stuff in the machine he tumbled the stuff in the machine. He is absolutely furious and saying it's all my fault.

so you left your clothes in the washer and they went smelly?

why is he furious? he should have just taken your whiffy wash out and done his own, YOU should have rewashed your own load when he had done his.

the tumbling is a total waste of time, effort and energy.

I'm not sure I understand, why is he furious? What has happened that is all your fault?

Is this really about laundry, OP? Surely, it cannot be ...

Why on earth is he "furious"? It sounds like he needs to get a grip.

And you need to stop being so wasteful by drying your clothes in a more timely manner instead of leaving them to fester in the washing machine.

YA both BU.

I am confused too. Why is he furious that he switched the tumble dryer on with clothes that needed re washing? Not hardly time consuming

Don't follow. Sounds far too complicated.

You left washing for days in the machine and you're pissed off he actually did something with it?

Why would you leave washibg till it smells?

Yabu he went to use the machine and couldn't get to it, don't have a clue what the washing on the floor has to do with it at all.

He is furious because he has again tumble dried something that can't be tumble dried and it has shrunk and I am not happy about it.

I just don't get how someone could put a load of clothes into an empty tumble dryer, be told that they smell and as I was going to go out for a couple of hours could he re-wash them when his wash was finished. I could have done my wash myself but I knew he would want to use the tumble dryer for his stuff and didn't want to put a wet, smelly load of clothes on the floor.

Sounds like your issue tbh.
Why would you leave cloths in th machine for 2 days to start smelling ? Confused

Report
AmIjustgrumpy · 06/07/2015 14:02

Does it matter that the clothes smelt? Thats not the issue and not something I asked if I was unreasonable about did I? I was asking it was unreasonable to tumble dry something that somebody asked you not to.

I think you're both being ridiculous for not being able to organise two peoples' washing and getting into a state about it!

Report
AuntyMag10 · 06/07/2015 14:08

I think you both need to get out more rather than creating such drama over boring laundry.

Teabagbeforemilk · 06/07/2015 14:11

I think the whole situation is ridiculous.

You say he ruined your washing so you don't let him wash you stuff anymore. But then asked him to this time and surprised that he fucked up again.

However it sounds like a misunderstanding in this instance.

Is he furious? Or are you? Because you seem really angry

Bigger picture time: does it really matter?

You knew he can't be trusted with your washing so you asked him to do your washing Grin. Consider it to be a lesson.

This thread sounds like a bad Daz advert.

If you wanted your stuff re-washed you should've paid him the courtesy of taking them out of the tumble drier and putting them by the washing machine.

I'm not sure what the new, dry clothes on the floor have to do with it all though, so maybe I've got it all arse about face.

OK. Re-read, and think I get it.

Surely leaving your clothes in the machine for several days means YOU are in danger of damaging them anyway!?

Also, always tumble drying every load is a bad habit. Very wasteful of electricity. I have hardly used my dryer for the last few weeks.

Better to get into the habit of putting them out if you are able, or at least on a clothes horse.

Tbh, it all just sounds like poor communications anyway.

AmIjustgrumpy · 06/07/2015 14:27

I couldn't put the clothes in the washing machine because he had already taken my load out and put it all in the tumble drier and then put his wash on.

No not angry just bemused as to why people can't answer the question that was asked and feel the need to comment on other aspects of the post which are irrelevant but hey that's mumsnet I suppose!

It does all sound like a lot of fuss over something that should be simple. Maybe you need a washing machine each to prevent the same problem coming up in future?

Report
reredos1 · 06/07/2015 14:35

I don't understand the question.

It may be that I'm not the only one and that's why you're getting odd answers.

Why is your husband furious if it is your stuff that is damaged?

Are the pair of you this petty about everything, or just laundry? Confused

Report
AmIjustgrumpy · 06/07/2015 14:37

Velociraptor - Yes I agree, it's a pretty simple request to ask for my wash not to be tumble dried hence me being annoyed that it was tumble dried. He had no reason to tumble my wash and yet again interfered and ruined my clothes.

You're both at fault. He obviously didn't listen when you said you wanted him to re-wash it. And you were daft to leave washing you didn't want tumble dried in a tumble drier. Seems like a lot of fuss over nothing to me though!
