AIBU?

To think that if you don't have the appropriate bra don't wear the dress?

Out and about yesterday I saw so many women with their bras on show - and not a bra strap peeping out on a shoulder, the whole bloody thing in some cases. Strapless tops with strapped bras, backless dresses with bra straps going across the middle of the back, halter necks with strapped bras, you name it, it was all on show - and in many cases there were combinations of low back, halter straps and a normal bloody bra. This wasn't confined to the young either - so I don't think it was some kind of fashion thing [old gimme emoticon]

It's underwear isn't it? Meaning it goes under the clothes? There are halter neck bras, strapless bras, backless bras etc so it's not like its impossible. I appreciate some dresses/tops aren't designed to be worn with any kind of bra so either go without or don't buy the dress or top! I've put many an item back when I've realised I won't be able to wear sufficient scaffolding support with it.

AIBU to think it's not that hard to dress so your bra isn't totally on show?

Yabu. If they are comfy why do you care?

Yes, times a million. I find it particularly annoying when you see women who are a B/C cup who have access to reasonably priced bras in a rainbow of colours and shapes.

(Yes I agree, rather than yes YABU)

I wear things and deliberately put my bra on show, I could search high and low but would be unable to find a fuck to give that others might judge me for it.

Definitely agree!

YABU. Find me a strapless bra in a 30H that doesn't hurt my pregnancy boobs, isn't ridiculously expensive, I can wear afterwards and actually stays up. If not I'm afraid you'll have to have your eyes soiled by my bra straps OP. It's hot. Deal with it.

I wore a red sports bra under a vest that was sort of cut away at the back, it was hot, I was comfortable and guess what I didn't care who could see my bra straps.

I am a FF cup and have a ridiculous amount of bras in a complete rainbow of colours, out of the thirty or so I have I have one black, no white, no nude. All from eBay and outlets, rarely pay more than £15, usually less.

I agree on one hand but on the other in the heat does it matter?

Generally I do match bra styles to what I wear and didn't buy racer back vests in H&M the other day as I know I'll need a converter to make my normal bras into a bra that doesn't show.

I'm huge of nork and a strapless bra with my strapless jumpsuit by day would be very uncomfy so a bright bra showing straps is the answer or a decent nude one if no bright one clean.

YANBU I dislike that look too. And it's often beautiful dresses or tops ruined by a greying M And S cotton underwired clearly visible. Why not at least look for a matching colour bra?

It might not be a pretty sight but then again, other women do not dress to please you. Maybe they just want to be comfortable.

YABU.

Yabu

Bras in my size cost c. £30

I have 2. One in use one in the wash. No way am I buying superfluous ones to appease intolerant people like you on the 2 days of summer when it's hot enough to wear a summer top that may reveal a strap.

It doesn't harm anyone does it?
Is this really your biggest problem in life?

Yes, Springcleanish - it's always a greying sad bra on show. Or at least they're the ones I notice.

I probably wasn't clear in my OP - I appreciate that sometimes it's done deliberately, and can look quite funky, but when it's a mixed wash grey bra spoiling imo a lovely dress I'm baffled.

bikeandrun a sports bra (particularly in red and not faded grey) looks fine in my view and more like layering.

But the whole back of the bra showing is weird I think. I don't know if it's worth getting wound up by when it's someone else's boobs, but I'd say it's not a good look.

I prefer bra-less though which I'm sure offends people as much or more...

LashesandLipstick am not even a tiny bit offended by your bra straps and think you should rock then to your hearts content, but if you want an alternative, have you though about a strapless bikini? This is what I generally wear under strapless summer dresses, there is a much wider variety than strapless bras, and they tend to be far more comfortable ime.

Op I think one of the main problems esp with bigger norks is the price and time it takes to buy a decent bra.

I was fine when I was a C/D cup but when I got bigger and did bra intervention it's harder to just buy a bra off the shelf and I have far less options. Shoot the bra companies not me!

LashesandLipstick · 05/07/2015 08:05

Gobblers that's actually a really good idea Shock I'm now amazed I've never thought of it. I've never found a comfy strapless bra but bikinis on the other hand...

Thanks!

Springcleanish, why should other people dress for your aesthetic?

Report
Bodicea · 05/07/2015 08:07

If done in the right way it can look cool. For instance a bright couloirs bra in clashing colour - bike and runs sounds like a good example of that.
But yes in some cases it can just look a bit crap and like the person has dressed themselves in the dark.
But if you are over a certain size it can be v difficult. Strapless bras for instance give me a saggy mono boob.
I personally would wouldn't buy the top/ dress in the first place. And go by the mantra would a French or Italian be seen in it.
But we are English - we are not good at dressing in the heat.

Op just out of interest and to compare so what would you say about a tight white dress clearly showing white g string from behind? Tacksville or not?! No it was not me! Grin. and for what it's worth I can't be bothered doing the VPL thing either life is FAR too short!
