AIBU?

neighbours offended that I suggested hiring a skip

My neighbours front garden is an eye saw, they habe a old kitchen unit next to the bin, an overgrown bush messy, grass that's barely cut twice a week. Some weeds poping up through the concrete.

I've joked many times about it but it really does bring the street down. Other day I suggested hiring a skip, since then they've ignored me. They are just being precious right?

I wouldn't have joked about it I would have asked them to do it. Maybe they can't afford one though. You could suggest asking the council to come and remove the larger bits as there is sometimes only a small charge.

No, you are

Leave it alone, it's not your business

Perhaps they can't afford to hire a skip. Why don't you help them out instead of joking about it?

I think it is her business. Who wants to live next door to a rubbish tip? If it is a LA house they can be told to clear it anyway.

Ask them if they want you to hire it for them. I don't think I would want to be friendly with anyone with such low standards anyway.

I think you were being rude.

They have as much right to live happily in a shit-tip as you do to live somewhere neat.

If there isn't rubbish/food waste there to attract rats and pests then it's got sod all to do with you, even if it does 'bring the street down'

An old kitchen unit isn't going to fill a skip.

No one cuts their grass twice a week.

This is a reverse isn't it?

Only on MN would people think it's ok to pile rubbish up in your front garden and for it to be tolerated.

Is that a typo re the grass? My lawn is only cut once a week at the very most. And my patio has a few weeds poking through at the moment....

If they can't afford a skip then they could still make it tidy in a less conspicuous place rather than "strewn across the front garden"

Them not speaking to you is no loss.

The grass is barely cut twice a week!
Good lord woman, it's a wonder how you can cope.

Cut the grass only twice a week? How often are they supposed to cut it?

Yabu. Your 'many jokes' are unwelcome and you should stop going on about it. Since it's not your business.

They have probably just had enough of your attempts to make them do something you want them to do

Oh come on it's clearly bollocks

The OP says the neighbours cut their grass twice a week

She's complaining about a few weeds through the paving cracks and ONE kitchen unit next to a bin

No one needs a skip for one kitchen unit

Report
afreshstartplease · 04/07/2015 08:39

Lots of weeds here

YABU. And silly.

I think that your 'jokes' haven't really helped although I understand that you probably saw them as kind/ non aggressive hints.
Now they have been wound up by what they probably saw as digs they will see your comment about a skip as the last straw.

What are they like? Could you talk to them and say that you didn't want to fight with them but the house looks messy and it must annoy them too - did they want to get it taken away, could you help?

DextersMistress · 04/07/2015 08:40

Definitely a reverse. Grass cut twice a week, a few weeds and one kitchen unit next to the bins? If it's not a reverse I'd have told you to fuck off.

Shit I've just realised my bushes could do with pruning too. You're my neighbour aren't you? I don't have a kitchen unit next to the bins but I do have a shed. ..

Cut grass twice a week? I smell a wind up.

Oops I misread the op. One unit isn't so bad and nobody mows twice a week unless they are very anal.

You sound rude, maybe there is a genuiene reason why they have not got a perfect garden.

Does it really affect your life.

The kitchen unit needs to go I agree but a few weeds a bush and not cutting their grass twice a week YABU.

Report
Pipbin · 04/07/2015 08:42

Hang on.

My block paving has loads of weeds poking through, the bush needs cutting and I have a couple of bits of big rubbish waiting for a tip run down the side.
I work and haven't had time to attend to it all.
