Hey, I used to be a part time hair dresser, Only qualified to level 2 so not a professional by any means and no longer work in the beauty industry but do cut and dye hair for friends and family and do eyebrows too (as i used to do in work).
I'm sat in the car at the minute waiting for DP to come out of nursery with DS,I've had the day off today. At 1oclock one of my friends whom I know reasonably well said she'd had a hair disaster (badly damaged hair needed very strategic cutting and deep conditioning to salvage what was left) and really needed someone to come and sort it for her asap. This friend does not live far so I got my equipment together and went straight out with DD (14mo) in tow, DD is quite happy to entertain herself in her seat when need be so i brought her in, gave her a toy and felt book to play with, plopped her in her seat and got to work. I told my friend that I needed to be out by 2:30 at the very latest in order to pick up DP from work and then go and get DS(and that would've been tight), She said she understood. By 2:20 we were done. She then asked if I could straighten her hair for her (i'd left it damp for her to style herself- as she'd requested) and pluck her eyebrows for her, I told her rather than doing it then I'd have to come out either tomorrow after work or the day after if she still needed it doing as I just didn't have the time to get it all done to the high standard that I work to and would have to rush, She said no take your time, I explained again "i really really can't Jo* I'm sorry but if I don't leave within the next 5 minutes I will be late picking DS up" she then said "oh well if you're late, you're late! tell dp to get a cab to DS and then a cab home it'll be fine it'll only cost a tenner" I then just said "look, I've said I can't and I'm not spending out 10 pounds that I don't have for something that'll cost £3.50 in petrol just because you're impatient and entitled" I walked out with my stuff and DD with my so called friend sat there going "I can't believe you're leaving! I'm not paying you!" I'd only asked for 2.50 to cover my fuel, By the way. So hardly like she was paying anywhere near the full price which would've been 65 quid in my old salon Now as I type this i'm getting texts off so called friend, I've read a few saying "I've got a date tonight, I only asked you for a favor some friend you are!" and "My hair looks awful, Its too long" (she just asked me to salvage whatever could be salvaged, no specific requirements and before our argument said it looked brilliant and she was pleased i'd kept so much length!) She's also threatened to sue me (Can you even sue someone for a service you didn't pay for? a service you said you were pleased with, by the way!) AIBU to A- ignore her and never talk to her again and B- was i being unreasonable to walk out? I feel quite upset- I did someone a favor in my own time and am made to feel bad for it!
