Hey, I used to be a part time hair dresser, Only qualified to level 2 so not a professional by any means and no longer work in the beauty industry but do cut and dye hair for friends and family and do eyebrows too (as i used to do in work).
I'm sat in the car at the minute waiting for DP to come out of nursery with DS,I've had the day off today. At 1oclock one of my friends whom I know reasonably well said she'd had a hair disaster (badly damaged hair needed very strategic cutting and deep conditioning to salvage what was left) and really needed someone to come and sort it for her asap. This friend does not live far so I got my equipment together and went straight out with DD (14mo) in tow, DD is quite happy to entertain herself in her seat when need be so i brought her in, gave her a toy and felt book to play with, plopped her in her seat and got to work. I told my friend that I needed to be out by 2:30 at the very latest in order to pick up DP from work and then go and get DS(and that would've been tight), She said she understood. By 2:20 we were done. She then asked if I could straighten her hair for her (i'd left it damp for her to style herself- as she'd requested) and pluck her eyebrows for her, I told her rather than doing it then I'd have to come out either tomorrow after work or the day after if she still needed it doing as I just didn't have the time to get it all done to the high standard that I work to and would have to rush, She said no take your time, I explained again "i really really can't Jo* I'm sorry but if I don't leave within the next 5 minutes I will be late picking DS up" she then said "oh well if you're late, you're late! tell dp to get a cab to DS and then a cab home it'll be fine it'll only cost a tenner" I then just said "look, I've said I can't and I'm not spending out 10 pounds that I don't have for something that'll cost £3.50 in petrol just because you're impatient and entitled" I walked out with my stuff and DD with my so called friend sat there going "I can't believe you're leaving! I'm not paying you!" I'd only asked for 2.50 to cover my fuel, By the way. So hardly like she was paying anywhere near the full price which would've been 65 quid in my old salon Now as I type this i'm getting texts off so called friend, I've read a few saying "I've got a date tonight, I only asked you for a favor some friend you are!" and "My hair looks awful, Its too long" (she just asked me to salvage whatever could be salvaged, no specific requirements and before our argument said it looked brilliant and she was pleased i'd kept so much length!) She's also threatened to sue me (Can you even sue someone for a service you didn't pay for? a service you said you were pleased with, by the way!) AIBU to A- ignore her and never talk to her again and B- was i being unreasonable to walk out? I feel quite upset- I did someone a favor in my own time and am made to feel bad for it!
*jo is a fake name.

Jo is a cunt. Don't even give her the satisfaction of a reply - just cut this friendship off now.

No, I think you were totally fair. She didn't get the (plainly obvious) hints that you were nearing the time you needed to go and in desperation tried to manipulate you into staying longer. Would she have paid the taxi?...doubt it. It's good you were so assertive tbh, I would have probably got guilted into it! You're not BU, I admire you for leaving!

Cheeky fecking mare! I'd be tempted to tell her to stop worrying about her hair and work on her disgusting attitude if she wants to impress on her date, but I'm not the calmest of people. Probably best to either ignore entirely, or send one calm text stating that you only agreed to do her hair, she already agreed she was happy with it, and tell her you no longer wish to speak to her, so she needs to stop texting.

What an entitled cow! No you were not being unreasonable to leave, and on which planet does she think she can sue you! I would never help her out again, and would break off the friendship.

Yabu.

You need to asap confide in a common friend, to ensure you have YOUR side of the story out. If possible, call and cry to a friend saying how upset you are, and how nastily you have been treated. You dont have to say WHO did this to you, people will understand when she starts talking about your meanness, and she will out herself, while you have the highground not just for your conduct today, but for not saying WHO the mean biatch is...

She sounds like and absolutely horrible, selfish and unreasonable person.

Run free, and don't look back

Or possibly invoice her

YANBU. Personally I would send a text back saying " I am sorry you feel that way but I did state the time I needed to leave. I was happy to do the favour for you as I like to help my friends but due to your behaviour I will think twice in future. Please feel free to take whatever legal action you deem neccassary however seen as no money changed hands and this was an informal agreement I don't see how you will. Please do not contact me again."

I know some will say just ignore but I couldn't and would have to say something.

Your not being unreasonable at all. She is! You explained before you started you had limited time and did what she asked in that time. When she asked for extras you explained again about the time and said no, that's more than fair for £2.50. Shes trying to take advantage of your friendship. I think most people wouldn't have even tried to fix it in the first place if it was that badly damaged. I would text back and tell her she knew your time restriction before hand and you did you best to fix her mess for her and not to ask again because she is unreasonable.
Sounds to me like you've done nothing apart from try to be a good friendFlowers

Makethemeatcake- Tbh I might have reconsidered if it was any other dsay if she'd offered to pay the cab (which would've been more than a tenner btw not sure if i mentioned that- cost dp £18 when he had to do it in an emergency), although we're meant to be going out together for a family outing today hence me taking the day off and dp switching shifts with someone else (he normally works 7-10 with one half day on a tuesday but due to other circumstances we couldnt enjoy a family day out this week)

Well she's cut off her own nose there. She'll come round when she next has a hairdressing favour.

I'd love you forever if you'd done me such a massive favour! (I'm v precious about my hair and spend loads on cuts/colour/treatments etc)

Will block her number, thank you ladies Flowers
I don't feel the need to go crying to friends tbh, Our only mutual friend as such is my sister who i'll tell and Jo will be torn a new arse if she goes to my sister with this...

Wixingmords (Your username makes my head hurt!) I know her reasonably well and do sometimes go for coffee with her etc but have never done her hair for her before although i've offered to (but she insists on doing it herself... hence the hair disaster, Well done Jo Grin ) I've noticed she can be a bit dramatic and full on but never like this. I've learnt my lesson though!
