AIBU?

Is this cute and funny, or a slap in the face?

Dd is 5, first year in school. Her new teacher for next year really kindly gave all the class a sunflower each, and asked them to take photos of it and see how it grows so the class can all talk about it in September.
The dog ate it. I caught her with it and took a photo - there was no rescuing it. If I send her in with that photo, will it be a cute funny thing to talk about with the class, or will the teacher think that's a bit of a slap in the face when she gave them all a gift and here's a picture of it being ruined?!
AIBU to send her in with a photo of the dog eating the plant?

Just plant another seed and put in on the windowsill. Tell it is a replacement and send the photo if you like.
Good luck!

Well I laughed!

Personally I'd get her another sunflower. Send the photo of the dog eating the original one in for the teacher to have a good chuckle, and some photos of sunflower no 2 so your DD doesn't feel left out when all the kids share their stories.

Well it's certainly a new twist on 'the dog ate my homework' WinkGrin

I'd love it.... But you don't know this teacher yet. Send that pic in, but also buy a replacement and take pics of that one being cared for.
Loads of other families will kill theirs too I bet.

I'd buy your DD a replacement sunflower, similar size so she can take photos of it over the summer and participate in the activity making sure the dog can't reach this one

Then I'd send her in to school in September with all the photos including the shot of the first one being eaten. It is funny but means your DD isn't missing out if the sunflower journey is a big part of the curriculum at the start of term.

I would plant a new one and send the photo in too.
No way would anyone of sound mind take that as a slap in the face. Not all seeds will grow, not everyone will water them, she won't be expecting 30 perfect sunflower photos anyway.
Id only replant so your ds doesn't feel left out when they talk about it.

We have some other sunflowers left in the garden, as we planted some ourselves recently. We have lost a few already, they seem to be some sort of doggy crack, but we'll take photos of any that survive until flowering probably will just buy a flowered one in September.

If i was a teacher i would laugh my socks off at that photo and wouldn't be offended in the slightest. He looks so unrepentant "yeah, so what, it was just a stupid flower, guv"

I found it funny, and cute!
I'd send the pic but buy a replacement so she can still join in

Totally take the picture in.

We did this in class too. Loads of the kids didn't water the seeds and they died. So they didn't do their plant diaries, or take pictures, or bring in the dead plant.

It was a washout as that was the whole point of the task! What can go wrong, what plants need to survive. What they look like if they don't get water etc.

Yours is an example of needing protection from predators Grin

I'm a teacher and our class bear got chewed to bits by one child's dog when he went home with them for the weekend. We thought it was hilarious! The teacher will love it ;-)
