AIBU?

to make an "official" complaint?

Returning to camp site , I REALLY needed my asthma inhaler, I did have my "back up" inhaler in the car but it was on the last few (weak) puffs.

I came down the entrance Road (fenced off on both sides, clear line on site) faster than I should have.

As I got out my car to open the gate to the campsite proper the camp site owner (cso) came storming across to me.

cso "DONT you EVER come down my drive at that speedagain"

I appologised, he continued to absolutely RAGE at me , I continued to appologise ( as best I could with my asthma) but he just wouldn't stop.

At this point he came round my car AT me.

I said "if you come any closer I will consider it assault"

Cso " pack up your tent, FUCK OFF and dont come back"
He then stormed off.

I am totally ashamed to say I then realised I had partially wet myself.

I want to"officially " record this some how.

I don't want to report him as he has all my contact details from my booking.

Can I record this with the police but not have it go any "further" as it were ??

Then when I feel more able to handle things I can use my report as evidence.

Erm...

I'm sorry you needed your inhaler (but to be fair, as an adult you should make sure you have one with you if your asthma is that bad) and partially wetting yourself is embarrassing, but what would you be reporting?

Report
teeththief · 28/06/2015 20:58

How much faster than the limit were you driving? I can see why you were panicked if your back up inhaler was running out but obviously all he saw was a car speeding on his property.

I'm sat firmly on the fence here sorry!

define 'faster than you should have'

are we talking doing 20mph in 10mph limit, or were you doing 70mph chucking dust everywhere?

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 28/06/2015 20:59

I would have shouted at you too. Speeding through a campsite is a stupid and dangerous thing to do.

And I'm asthmatic btw so know what it's like not being able to breathe with little or no inhaler.

Campsites are to be driven round slowly, children and dogs are wandering around freely.

You should be more prepared

He shouldn't have shouted at you but you shouldn't have sped endangering lives

Most campsites have a limit of about 5mph due to the risk of children playing. How fast were you driving?

Report
candlesandlight · 28/06/2015 21:02

Sorry about your asthma but you admit you were driving too fast, and maybe he was concerned about possible accident.camp sites I have been on tend to have kids , sometimes tearing around on bikes.what would be the basis of your complaint , maybe you were both wrong ?

PHANTOMnamechanger · 28/06/2015 21:02

what are you hoping to gain by reporting to the police that he shouted at you? and why report if you then dont want it taken further??

Report
catfourfeet · 28/06/2015 21:02

That he scared so much I was afraid he was going to physically asssult me.

I don't think you have a leg to stand on.

Also, it sounds as if you just want revenge on the campsite owner for shouting at you. What's this nonsense about recording your 'official complaint' (note: use that term only when you want people to think you are silly) with the police but for it to 'go no further'?

Report
PHANTOMnamechanger · 28/06/2015 21:03

I dont think you can report thinking someone almost assaulted you Hmm

Report
FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 28/06/2015 21:05

He was probably afraid you were going to run over a small child.

Report
Klayden · 28/06/2015 21:06

Scared he might assault you is not something you can officially report. I think he reacted out of fear....like you did.

Report
Lovemydogs2015 · 28/06/2015 21:06

Even if the police wrote it down but took it no further at your request, I am not sure what good it would do.

And that would also, presumably, draw police attention to the fact that you were speeding....

I am sorry you felt scared though, OP.

msgrinch · 28/06/2015 21:06

yabu, he didn't assault you he gave you a bollocking for driving dangerously. quite rightly.

Report
Wideopenspace · 28/06/2015 21:07

But he didn't assault you. He yelled at you a bit rudely for driving in a dangerous way on his property. Not ideal, but not illegal. And I doubt you would have been in such a state if you had had your inhaler.

Should he report you for dangerous driving?

Report
redshoeblueshoe · 28/06/2015 21:08

The camp site we were just at had a speed limit of 5mph - for a reason, so children can safely wander round. YABU

I drove faster on the access road , its separate from the campsite proper. Hence the gate into the camp site itself that I had to stop at.

I was going about 20 on the road. Its on the cso land but not on the camp site itself

You CAN report it, it's a common assault when you fear that you are going to be assaulted, however if you choose to report it and then say that you I don't want to take the matter any further, the camp site owner will be eliminated as a suspect and the matter closed. Personally, I think having it recorded and him being 'advised' re his behaviour would be the most appropriate course of action...

Redglitter · 28/06/2015 21:09

Phoning the police to report it but not take it any further is just a waste of everyone's time. If you want to report him (for what I'm not sure) then report him but don't call and say you don't want anything done

Sorry people have been well not to put too finer point on things frankly rude to you, Cat.
Yes you were wrong for speeding. I can't condone that. Heaven forbid it could have my child walking through the camp that you could have hit injured or worse,
But he did not have to use abusive language and terrify you.
You probably wet yourself out of fear. Another so called man screaming at a women. I wonder what his reaction would have been if you were a fellow man, but who do you complain to. Speeding is yes rightly illegal but sadly being abusive isn't.

If you report his aggression, he could report that you were driving probably double the speed limit.

Hare If the OP doesn't want to take it further then he won't be spoken to. A lot of forces no longer just issue warnings in cases like this. You either report it or you don't. The days of the police going out and speaking to people about non events is largely a thing of the past
