About neighbors slamming front door shut every time they come in or go out ?

I don't know if I am or not .

Immediate neighbors are very nice people , we get on fine. However, as the heading suggests, the door is forever slammed . I don't know if its warped wood or what but it shakes my own front door and some plaster has come off the hallway wall . Would you say anything or leave it ? They are in and out roughly 12 times a day (what with various school/nursery runs, dad home for lunch, dad popping in for 10 minutes etc).

I have this problem. Definitely speak to them about it. It's not ok to disturb others. They may don't realise the effect on you. Or they may be inconsiderate arses.

I had this problem last year. We put up with it for months and months and months. Both DP and I mentioned it very politely on a number of occasions, but it fell on deaf ears. Eventually I totally lost my temper and went absolutely ballistic at one of them. Explained about the unacceptable noise at all hours of the day and night (yes, even at 2, 3, 4 am), the damage they were causing to our hall wall etc etc.

I am happy to say that they now close their front door considerately!

As an aside, an acquaintance of DP's (who I don't know) happened to have dropped in to see DP at the same time and heard my rant. Apparently, whenever he speaks to DP now he refers to me as 'your terrifying wife'!

if it needs slamming it probably doesn't fit.

If a wooden door, easily fixed. Might need planing. Might be the latch needs re-fixing.

If plastic door, needs a plastic-door-and-window repairer, perhaps to adjust the hinges or pack the glass.

A nicely-fitted door should swing shut with the touch of a finger, and the latch click shut. There are more people who can do it with a wooden door.

I could have typed this. You can hear the slam through the whole house, shakes the walls so to speak. Even wakes up the baby. Fucking annoying bastards. Wish I had the guts to say something but I'm totally non-confrontational.

Piglet, I hear what you're saying. But their door is perfectly fine (we have been, and still are, keyholders). The previous owner was as quiet as a mouse. Sadly, new neighbours are tenants who are self-centred '20 somethings' who don't give a shit about slamming their door.

Well .... they do now Grin

My arsehole neighbours do the same, but, I suspect, they do it deliberately. They also stand opening and slamming the fitted wardrobe doors, repeatedly. Due to that and other scummy behaviour I've started proceedings against them. Sorry I just needed to vent. I hope you get it stopped as I know how irritating it can be.

Our neighbours rattle our bed with their nocturnal door slamming antics. I had a word, she told me the door swells. No sign of them fixing it and it's two years on.
I admit to be exceptionally petty now and slamming the hell out of our doors when I know they are having a lie in. I've been woken at 3/4am by them so I'm not feeling very forgiving at 7.30am the next morning.

When the sun shines and it's hot our door swells and is almost unshuttable. There's nothing we can do about it.

not even chalking the edge to see where it rubs, then planing it?

Are the hinge screws tight?

Of course there is something you can do about it! You can get it fixed so that it doesn't annoy the hell out of your neighbours.

We have this, rented house, have asked the landlady repeatedly if she'll replace the doors and frames as they're knackered and she won't. So until then, the only way to properly close both the front and back doors is to slam them... Trust me, it annoys me too as often wakes the baby.

Our neighbours do this, it drives me fucking mad. Thing is, we've been here for two years and never said anything, so I don't feel like I can complain now. And we had to complain to them often enough about their broken old car dumped in front of OUR garage.

But I digress.

I've not noticed any cracking in our hallway, even though the slamming shakes our house. Bit worried now!

When we moved to our house the front door didn't have an escutcheon (?) round the lock to nothing to grab and pull when closing the door meaning we had to swing-slam the door shut or close it by putting our hands through the letterbox. We only did this for one day as we went to a DIY shop and bought a chrome cabinet handle (we have a porch so don't have to get a handle specifically for outside use). We fitted the handle to the door which means we can now pull our door gently closed so we don't pee the heck out of people.

Thank You all Sorry for late response, fell right off to sleep ,

They said it was warped when I did knock , said council had been informed of it but are waiting on them , likely get a new door. They didn't know it affected my Hallway but now do..
