Dh bought kids some profiteroles, dd got them out if fridge and gave one to ds nd when I started eating them they tasted like alcohol so I checked the box and it says contains alcohol on the bloody front!
Ds is 2 and dd is 6. They've both eaten one quite big profiteroles and the chocolate sauce (which also had alcohol in! It's my fault for not checking them but Dh had bought them for the kids so was none the wiser. Will they be ok?

How much alcohol does it contain?

Lol! I'm sure they'll be fine. There's probably worse thing in fruit shoots.

TattyDevine · 24/06/2015 16:52

They will be fine. They just cant contain that much alcohol in terms of volume. Don't worry.

Nope, the road to alcoholism is set for them now [Wink]

Wolfiefan · 24/06/2015 16:53

They will sleep well!

Seriously I'm guessing the amount of actual alcohol is negligible. They won't be on the gin next!

Take the packet and phone the "whatever the nhs direct" phone line has become.
Get some serious advice.

It doesn't say, it's not one of the first few ingredients, but was in the filling and the sauce

It was most likely a miniscule amount. Worst case, they'll talk your ears off for the next hour (remembering when my 6 year old sister took a big gulp of red wine out of someone's glass, thinking it was ribena.)

Shiiiii....

Its beginning of the end op!

I'm sure they will be fine but maybe a call to nhs direct for some advice would put your mind at rest

I wouldn't worry too much. I doubt there would be much actual alcohol in them.

Report
FelixFelix · 24/06/2015 16:57

Is it the ones from Co-op? They have hardly anything in them so don't worry.

Report
JustOneMoreSliceOfCakePlease · 24/06/2015 16:57

Yes it was the Co op ones!

Unless they had alcohol allergies which they don't because no reaction they'll be fine.

Report
NerrSnerr · 24/06/2015 16:57

They'll be fine, there won't be that much booze in them.

You don't need nhs advice Hmm Common sense will do it.
If there was anything more than negligible amount of alcohol there would be an age restriction on buying it. It's like giving them a rum and raisin ice cream.

I have had baileys profiteroles and they are divine! Don't worry at all, the amount of alcohol will be small. DS has eaten champagne truffles etc over the years with no ill effect.

They'll probably be fine. Try not to worry.

What would you actually call NHS Direct for? Seriously, do you honestly think that there is enough alcohol in one of the profiteroles to harm your child? It's hardly going to be more than there is/was in gripe water, surely?

The fact that they actually ate them implies that there is damn all alcohol in them anyway, as if there was more than a whisper, they wouldn't like the taste.

I think you need just a tiny bit of grip, here.

Even if there was a harmful amount of alcohol in there, the most likely result is they would just be sick (this is what happened to my sister when adults thought it amusing to give her sips of their drinks when she was a baby). (this was the 70s!)

She laughed and laughed and laughed and then she puked.

Your kids will be fine. Don't worry!

I'm sure they will be fine. I don't think those desserts have a significant amount in at any rate. Don't worry until you come home and find that the DCs have been hiding empty boxes of boozy profiteroles down the back of the sofa.

Cripes! I would not be worried in the least. Alcohol will just be added for flavour, and will be a miniscule amount. It is expensive for the manufacturer to add any significant amounts of alcohol to the cream. Don't worry at all.

aladyofindeterminateage · 24/06/2015 17:02

I wouldn't panic.
Most of these products have no more than a tiny drop of alcohol in them.

Gripe water used to have loads of alcohol in it, and some cough mixtures contain a lot too.

They will be fine.
