AIBU?

AIBU to ask what's the hot craze among 8-9 year old girls?

My niece is 8 on Friday, and I need to get her a present - something I can get from Amazon Prime, really. I'm largely nc with her mother so can't ask for suggestions. I know it's awful of me to leave it so late but I've been pretty ill recently, with an operation scheduled for next week, and it's just slipped my mind until this morning. So those of you with girls of about this age, what is 'in' at the moment?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If she's into crafts, there is the "doh Vinci" play dough kits, where they make pretty designs using a special play dough 'pen' I think.

I don't think anything's really "in" at the moment, in terms of a great craze. But my DSD'd love craft things, especially kits where they can make their own jewellery and stuff like that

At the moment I don't notice any one big craze but if you get her cafty stuff then she'll like it....Claire's have sets of make your own jewellry aimed at girls this age...a nice jewellry box might be a good choice too....my girls also love sets which let them make snow globes.

Hunger Games

maybe a bit too old / violent for a 7/8 year old!

Top model friendship book on Amazon. My dd got one as a present and has given one to her 2 friends turning 9 and it was a hit.

No big craze at the moment (loom bands were 2014) dd and her friends like mine craft, video star app and playing Harry Potter.

Agree with dancemom, stationary is the big thing here - funky pencil cases, gel pens, novelty erasers, notebooks etc..

Not Hunger Games for a nine year old. Don't know of any real crazes but I know DS female friends are really into these karaoke and dance games you get for games consoles. If they don't have one why not put together a 'girl's night kit' she can use with you or her mum? Girly DVD, wee nail polishes a facemask, lip balms, popcorn etc.

My dd and her friends love stationery, hair accessories, pyjamas, that sort of stuff.

Oh yes, any of the Top Model stuff - although her mum won't thank you for the sets that include make up Grin

I don't think you can ever go wrong with a big pack of coloured/ neon/ glittery gel pens!

My dd and her friend both loved the girl tech password journey too - £18.99 on Amazon. Like a secret diary they set a voice password up for.

DS and his best friend (shes a girl) are just about 9 and both of them spend most of the time in his room playing Minecraft.

She loves raiding through his Minecraft Guide books.

Stationary or art stuff goes down well at this age. Also secret diary type things.

Anything from here www.smiggle.co.uk/shop/en/smiggleuk#

We had a Smiggle shop open in our town last year and all the girls I know love their stuff.

My 9 yo loves Beanie Boos and looom bands!

But she'd also love stationery, craft kits, etc. Or a Nerf Rebelle!

God, it's like another world! I only have a tiny DS so we're still on Lamaze toys here. Thanks everyone! That's really helpful. I think I'm going to get her the journal thing (thanks, dixie !) because I've got her crafty things for the last couple of birthdays, so a change might be nice.
