She must have been in a really tricky situation.

I know she deserves punishing but I'm not sure what good having her details in the national press will do.

So you decide to broadcast it even further?

Well, it's already in two national papers, which I won't link to cause no one reads the daily mail on here Wink

Can't get that link to work at all.

Two weeks before this incident she was caught stealing £170 worth of toys from ToysRUs.

Yeah I'll reserve my sympathy for someone deserving of it. Not a scummy thief.

I don't understand why you're sympathising - she stole stuff. A fair bit of stuff.

I think it was because they said in the paper none of it was luxury items.

I just feel a bit sorry for her! She's only a couple of years older than me and I just felt a bit sad she had to steal food.

She probably didn't 'have' to steal food. Just worked out that she could do with some ease.

Nope, don't feel sorry for her at all. Whether luxury items or not, theft is theft. The retailer is still suffering a loss.

It's sad that anyone feels they have to steal to feed their family or buy presents for their kids I guess.

She didnt have to steal food she chose to stick a barcode in her bra and steal she had probably been in before and this is her getting caught . Dd works in a supermatket they have their regulars in trying to swap reduced on non essentials they chance their arm

Nope, don't feel sorry for her. She stole stuff, we all pay for that with higher prices.

I tend to agree with Elder flower.
I don't think this is a particularly bad person. I think she was just desperate to feed her children.
I think she did what she had to rather than wanted to. Elder's right it is disgusting that people feel they have to resort to stealing to feed their children.
The stealing the toys bit though. There is no excuse. Okay it may hVd been for her child's birthday but if I was on the bones of my arse I would just go into the £ shop And just get about 20 items for them to unwrap as that is all children want just the excitement of opening presents.
However I could be wrong and she could just be a money grabbing robbing specimen

Do you feel the same sympathy for shoplifters?

Same thing.

(It's terrible if she was stealing food because she didn't have enough money because of circumstances beyond her control... however I would have less sympathy if she (making this up as I go along ..) was doing it because she spent her money on stupid things and wasted it and expected the supermarket to sick it up)

I don't know her or her circumstances so am not commenting on her personally, just thoughts on what her situation may or may not be

Elderflower you are a hypocrite. Why on earth would you post the link?

Do you know her? Are you trying to spread the word. Looks that way to me.

Or 5 items then

elderflowerlemonade · 23/06/2015 21:48

No, I don't know her. It is in the national press - not sure why talking about it on here makes me a hypocrite; I didn't publish it.

Don't think enough is said about her personal circumstances and how she got there to judge whether she needs sympathy or is just a thief who saw yet another opportunity.

The previous toys r us conviction takes a lot of credibility away from the non-luxury, had to feed my family defence.

I didn't see anything about a Toys R Us theft?
