AIBU?

To take a 6 man tent to Glastonbury for 2 of us?

I'm thinking I am. We have a 3 man pop up tent or a 6 man tent. We are going tomorrow to set up early, and plan to camp in the quieter area but still feel unreasonable taking up that much camping space for just two of us. However if it rains for 5 days I'm concerned at the lack of out door sheltered space for muddy shoes etc, and also aware we we struggle getting ready in such a small space with a blow up bed etc in there.
Should I just gamble and take the 3 man and deal with the issues if it rains or just go for the 6 man?
If we had a 4 man tent we'd take that!!

You've paid - take whatever tent you want!

How on earth will you carry it? Its miles from the car parking!

I'd take the bigger one for all the reasons you've said

Dp has been every year since he was 17 and says he'll be able to carry it. We also have a pulley alongy type thing but I'm still unsure whether it's totally ott (ive never been before)

DH and I are taking a 6 man tent to Latitude and it's just the 2 of us...we are having a portaloo thing in one of the 4 pods. Mind you, we do like to fucking party so I imagine the odd wandering lovely will crash in a pod

Go for it, have fun! Grin

Have you been before? I've camped in the family area and there is no space between tents, it's just rammed! I wouldn't take a really expensive tent or anything you really want to use again because the likelihood of someone falling on it, tripping over guy ropes or hitting it with a cigarette are high. So take whatever size you want but the one you value most keep at home.

The forecast is good this year so hope you have a great time.

See, I like camping comfortably - infact I don't really do it much anymore. But we went to a festival last summer with the DC's (3 and 7 then), and had a 5/6 man tent. Someone else put it up for us, which was fab. But we barely spent anytime in it, and that was with 2 kids. The first night all of us passed out in our clothes at 11pm, without brushing teeth, just about remembered to put a pull up on the 3 year old (DH and I may have a few many mojitos). Second and third nights, sat outside whilst DCs slept.

So, if I ws going kid free, I would want as much time as possible chilling and partying and would go for the easiest option, your pop up tent. It will be so much lighter, will force you to take less stuff, and as a pp pointed out, the forecast is good for the weekend. Go light and easy. (that said, perhaps you don't have DC at all and don't mind the effort?)

You'd be a fool to take anything smaller!

Take the big tent.
We went to download last year with 3 in a 6 man tent, all our stuff, booze, wellies, cooking stuff, food etc took up loads of space mainly the booze and I was really grateful we had the bigger tent. Also if you can borrow one of those pull along shopping basket/bags do it. Take the bag off, stack with crates of beer, cling film it all secure and drag behind you!

Ah, yes, a pp has mentioned having a portaloo in one of their pods. We did have a separate toilet tent, which was invaluable and I would definitely take that, regardless of the size of my tent! Super light though, and plastic frame 'toilet' with bags - highly recommend them! (not sure I'd fancy having it in my main tent!)

Take. The. Big. Tent.

No brainer. I've done festivals both ways and I cannot even describe what a difference having some room makes.

Big tent gets the vote from me too. If you're arriving tomorrow, then you'll have plenty of time to bag a decent sized spot, and don't underestimate how awesome a pulley-along-thingy will be - it's a very long distance from the parking areas, when you are knackered & trying to find your car on the day you decide to leave, you really won't regret it!

Def. big tent. Have you been camping before? the berths on tents are literally how many people could in theory lay down in the bedrooms without an inch of space left over between them or around them. In realistic terms, a 3 berth tent is cramped for 2 people, even without all your stuff. There's only one of me and I always use a minimum 4 berth/1 bedroom tent just to myself.

Me and DH take a 6 man tent to Download every year between the 2 of us. the extra space is needed for our stuff etc and if its raining it becomes home for everyone we are with as we can all sit in it together. a few years ago it rained really badly and our friends little cheap tents got flooded so they all ended up in our living room area.

Definitely take the big tent! :)

YY to the big tent. I would recommend a sleigh over any wheeled thing though, especially if rain is forecast.

We took one one year and got loads of calls of 'are you expecting snow?? Ha ha ha'. They were laughing on the other sides of their faces when their crappy little wheels got trapped in the mud though!! Grin

Thanks everyone. I'm going to take the 6 man tent and the 3 man! So if we get there and there's no room for a big tent (highly unlikely according to dp) we can go and get the 3 man tent out of the car!
I've been camping before but we've always just taken the 6 man, never tried to squeeze into a smaller tent as never really needed to. Can just see it pissing it down and me and DP being stuck in the tent trying to get dressed at the same time whilst stood on top of a blow up bed (not even stood as can't stand up on the tent) with our wellies filled with water because we didn't want muddy wellies in with our bed and everything else! (Should've got a tent with a little outside shelter/porch)
Hopefully we won't piss anyone off with our big tent!

We have no sleigh (and doubt we'll find one this time of year!)but that's a great idea, must remember for next year.

YANBU. It's the people taking up space with gazebos that are more 'annoying'. It's no one's business how many are in your tent.

There will be 2 of us in a 4-man tent. That arrangement has worked well for us for the past 10 years or so.

My main problem is the distance we have to carry the bloody thing! We usually use the bus, as the dropping off point is a lot closer to the site/camping areas.

Definitely big tent me and dp went in a 3 man it's tiny, once your bags are in theres only enough space to lay down with your arms by your side.

we took a massive tent for 3 of us. two double separate bedrooms, a huge communal area and a porch. it was worth it

My DH and I have what's advertised as a 6 man tent and always use it for the two of us. It's not too heavy and the extra space is very handy.
