We moved into our house a few months ago and one of the things we wanted to change was the fence panels. It's a new build property but the some of the fences are rubbish, very thin and badly made. Our boundary fence (marked on deeds) had a horrible 3/4 fence with a trellis at the top. Whilst we get on with our neighbours, it started getting awkward with the trellis reducing privacy for both of us.
So we decided to replace the fence on that side, we spoke to the neighbours and they were fine with it. Considering we were paying for it and they would benefit from a) a much better quality fence and b) extra privacy I wasn't surprised they didn't object.
Anyway, we put up the fence and went around to check they were happy. They were apart from one thing, we didn't replace one fence panel nearest the house as it was already full height. They are claiming it looks "odd".
Am I being unreasonable in thinking they are expecting a bit too much? We specifically said we wanted to replace the shorter fence and it cost us a fair amount of money to replace what we did.
The fact that one fence panel is different on that side of our garden doesn't bother us, I don't think it looks particularly odd and I don't really want to spend another £40 on one panel that doesn't really need replacing.
Am I being unreasonable?
