AIBU?

WIBU not to go out?

Have arranged to meet a friend for drinks/meal tonight.

I've just got back from an overnight work trip, which has involved 4 hours travelling yesterday and today, 2 early starts and less than 6 hours sleep the last 2 nights. I am shattered. All I really want to do right now is go for a doze on the sofa.

But I feel bad for letting my friend down. She's recently separated but hasn't told any of our wider group of friends other than me. That said although she had invited another couple of friends out tonight, I don't think either of them were free. So if I say I'm not coming, she either won't be going out at all, or not with anyone she can talk openly to.

How bad would it be of me to cancel?

I would go, but explain in advance that I was very tired and couldn't stay out late.

I think it would be pretty bad form to pull out so late. Could she come round to yours or vice versa and you have a quiet night in with a bottle of wine and a takeaway? That way you get to see each other and catch up, but it's not as knackering?

Call your friend, say you're knackered so change of plan:

Power nap
Shower
Friend comes round with wine and you have take away

Really bad I think. It's already evening. You may have looked slightly better if you'd cancelled earlier but I'd feel quite abandoned in her position.

Get a red bull down yer neck.

You'll get a second wind once you're with her.

I would go but let her know you're tired so won't be out too late. A nice natter over a meal is relaxing

I could suggest a takeaway, but I know she'll say no as she'll want to be out in a pub not at mine.

I could say I don't want to stay out late though, but it would still involve prising myself off the sofa. But it might be a good compromise.

Can't you change the plans and have her come to yours as misskatamari suggests? It can't be helped that you're knackered, but it sounds as though she could really do with your support. If you're at home, it should be far less stressful.

I'm going. Albeit I still feel shattered and my eyes are looking particularly bloodshot. Good job I'm not single and on the pull!

Hoping I can duck out earlyish (around 1030).
