Today was my uncles funeral my sister didnt go because she came off sleepover fair enough I thought she then checked into lunch then the cinema with the girls I am bloody raging with her acting like a 33yr old woman child and letting me do all the family stuff I am a stepchild so always feel a bit awkward with my stepdads family (even though they are lovely) all I have heard all day is oh thought X would be here and my mum saying oh she was nightshift . I am maybe BU its so annoying though

YANBU If she had just said "I don't want to go" then fair enough but to use night shift as an excuse and then do other things is not on IMO.

So your sister was on a nightshift which she used as the reason for not attending your uncle's funeral.

But it was then obvious through social media, that your sister was indeed having a nice day out.

Is she always so flaky?

Gosh you don't sidestep a funeral due to night shift. How embarrassing for you and your mother.

Yeah if she had been honest and said I dont want to go i would have been slightly miffed but fine, it was the whole hooha of i am really sorry will you be ok on your own blah blah before hand then checks in on FB 20 minutes before the funeral had even started that has pissed me off im a bit older than her so seem to be the respinsible 1 he was her full uncle iyswim she could have gone

She must have had her reasons. Tactless in the extreme to let slip on fb though.

Yanbu. I don't know what to say about this behaviour. What a self-centred, silly woman.

She said she couldn't go, she didn't go. It doesn't actually make any difference to your experience of today as to WHY she didn't go. Maybe the lunch thing came up after she'd already made the decision. Not a choice I would make but I don't think you need to make a three act drama out of it. Just shrug and move on.

It's the stupidity of checking in on FB isn't it.

If you make an excuse to not be somewhere, the least you can do is not make it so bloody obvious that you're ditching it.

She is v silly to check in on fb. Really silly.

It's up to her whether she wanted to attend the funeral or not.

Yeah but as said you should at least have the brain cells not to check in on fb. It's just politeness.

Maybe i am old fashioned and yeah maybe I am annoyed at myself a bit who knows I just think family funerals are something you try and attend not blow off for the cinema

While I agree that it was her decision not to go, it sounds like the OP was put in an awkward situation because people.were asking. That would make me angry

Report
stepintheother · 19/06/2015 17:38

It was the asking everybody seemed to be asking after her mum looked embarassed

Are you annoyed that she didn't go or that you did?

Report
ragged · 19/06/2015 17:43

I'd call it selfish so therefore annoying.
Something to file away in near future expectations.

Sorry, cross posted with others. Was she close to him?

My position is that people can do whatever they want, but they can NOT expect me to lie for them.

If she didn't want to go, fine. But I wouldn't have covered for her by saying she'd worked the night shift. Id've told the truth.

What time was the funeral? Did she actually do a sleep in or was she expecting you to use that as an excuse for her?
