I was wondering if anyone has named changed. If so what were your reasons, and do any MNetters know who you originally were?

I'm not name changing, just curious.. Smile

I've name changed recently. Just felt that I'd posted enough details for someone who knew me to work out it was me if they wanted too, so I'm having a fresh start! No one knows who I was, but no one would recognise my old name anyway Smile

I do it to avoid the possibility of being "recognised". I also change a few minor details every now and then (and I do mean minor) for the same reason. I've been here in one way or another since 2005 and have seen to much shit hit the fan if you're not careful.

I've been on MN for about 2 years and Ive had 3 names so far.

I changed first time as my original name was lame. Second time because I said a bit too much on a thread.

I don't think anyone would be able to work out what my other names were unless they were incredibly committed.

Regularly.

I name-change every week or two. I just don't want to have to think about someone recognising a turn of phrase or an identifying detail and looking up other posts of mine. With regular name changes, I don't have to worry about anyone being able to search lots of posts.

Regularly, I get bored very easily and like the challenge of thinking up a new name.

I change all the time as I often start threads about family and work and probably where I live ish. I also try to change details along the way, number and gender of kids but i lose track of my lies.
It's quite nice that you can know people back stories on here, especially if they are going through a hard time and they can get a lot of support.

I never do the "I've name changed for this"

Yep, I've had about five names so far. I change once I think I've posted enough details to be recognised.

Regularly, I've been here since 2005 I think, am not a known MN'r and often give away too much information so don't want to be recognised.

i don't really but probably should, don't really see the point and used to quite like getting to know 'people' on here. it's impossible now though

I change all the time, I usually have one like this that I use for "general" and then often I set one up for specific threads - I don't bother announcing that I name change and just ignore any "hello and welcome to MN" comments. I don't get the angst about name changers

I change every couple of months, just as I'd rather not be identified.

FenellaFellorick · 19/06/2015 08:08

Yes. I nc a few months ago. I'd had the same name for years.
I shall probably nc again in due course.

Nobody knows or cares what name I used to have. It doesnt matter. Just another gobshite on the internet Grin

I have a few times (have been here just over 3 years now).

I change because I post very openly and there are quite a few very identifying things which I have referred to under each name.

Report
ilovesooty · 19/06/2015 08:14

I've never name changed. I don't care if I'm identified and I could very easily be as I use the same name on different forums. I don't post anything that I'm bothered about anyone associating with me.
I think the name change facility on here is far too open to abuse and responsible for much of the trolling that goes on.

Nc regularly

I used to be a "name" but y'know, better to fly under the radar

I NC now after years of not doing, because of privacy and stalking.

I don't get why so many posters are terrified of being 'recognised' or 'outed', unless they're in the witness protection scheme.

I had a couple of other names when I started but I've been Empress of something or other for years now.

I name change every so often as I don't want a whole load of posts associated to one name. The only thing that concerns me is if I post for advice under a new nn I may be accused of being a bridge dweller Grin

I don't namechange other than the odd xmas thing. I don't post much and what i do post isn't important. Maybe i'll start again with a new name and start slagging my neighbours off Grin

Not "terrified" mileend, just that I share personal experiences on here to try and help sometimes and it's a worldwide forum.

Anyone could very easily suss who I am with all the bits together, and I don't tend to share my innermost secrets (such as relationship difficulties and medical issues) with casual acquaintances in my life as a rule, so I'd rather one or more didn't stumble upon me on here and put it together.
If they do, they do - but a regularish namechange helps to mitigate it.
