AIBU?

to ask about post-traumatic stress?

Ok it's not an AIBU. I just wanted to ask if anyone knows anything about PTSD. I was in a serious accident as a child and never really dealt with my feelings, even keeping the facts of the accident secret from friends until I was adult. I have all sorts of strange health things now and sometimes wonder if it is caused by bad psychology from this.

Thanks - I'm just starting to find out about this.

No advice unfortunately but am watching with interest as I am becoming quite certain I may be suffering from a form of it too. Good luck!

I don't think you will get the help you are looking for here.

Have you tried talking to your gp?

I have PTSD.

It peeks out in all kinds of ways - mental health flare ups like anxiety attacks or prolonged anxiety, but also physiological symptoms including blackouts and fainting.

GP in the first instance. They can help medicate if necessary and also point you towards talking therapies if appropriate.

Good luck Flowers

I suffered from PTSD and had EMDR therapy, was completely cured. I went for an incident that happened 12 years ago but in fact they also dealt with a bereavement from 40 years ago. I can now cope with what happened and look back without going to pieces. You can get this on NHS in some areas - have a google.

I have ptsd. I found drugs helpful and started to improve, then a repeat of the type of incident that gave me ptsd started it up again. Sad

Can you please, tell me more about EDMR?

Flashbacks when you see, smell or hear something that reminds you of event. Thinking about event a lot. Reliving the event in your head. Anxiety, depression. Not much fun. Are you ok op?

There's information on EMDR on the EMDR website which is here

I have PTSD but haven't found anything helpful (including EMDR). Different things help different people though. I'd advise speaking to your gp.

I find it very isolating and hard to cope with and hope you are okay and have support.
