my daughter is coming up 5. next door have a plastic play house and she loves playing in it. but they seem to small in hight. plus my 8 year old like to play as well. would it be a good idea to buy a small shed that has a window and jazz it up a bit so they can have that as a play house?

also any birthday gift ideas would be great as well.thank you :)

We just frou froued DD's 'shed'. It's great. Lovely fabrics and fake flowers. She loves it.

Oh and we painted it the same colours as the 'big house' so she loves that.

I got a summer house for my ds. Mostly to house his enormous Playmobil collection that won't all fit in the house...

We had a shed to play in at my grandmas house, it had curtains and a small table and chairs we used to eat in it. Great fun.

Yes yes. Took mine to a shed selling place apropos of something else and they were obsessed- esp with ones with stairs, so if you can add a mezzanine level(!) and ladder, you'll probably never get them back into the real house I want one myself

I used to play in our shed as a child. My friends mum made curtains for theirs (very jealous!) Sounds like a great plan will be more spacious and cheaper than a playhouse.

Brilliant idea!
Last year I painted my garden shed in cream, pink and green stripes: shed paint is very funky these days. Not got a picture, but I did the garden gate to match. She might like something like that?

DD had a shed. She painted it, stuck shells to it and all sorts.

Yep great idea I had one for my son now 25 and it's now used for the minded children. So lovely to see how children really just enjoy the simple things in life and make belive.

A shed will last much longer than a Wendy house. You can appropriate it when they grow out of it. Cost wise there's not much difference either.

Get a proper summer house, so when the kids grow out of 'play house' you can all still use it . If you get a small restricted height play house then once they have finished with it it will be just sitting in your garden, unloved....

My friends son has a shed. my little boys have a Wendy house but call it a shed. Its tiny bless them. The older kids use my summer house mainly though.

You could run an outdoor cable from the house, stick a heater in and leave the kids out there all winter! Imagine the peace.

I love this idea. They could paint it themselves.

I used to chuck all the bikes and lawnmowers out and play in our shed, loved it.

A shed definitely. They will grow out of a playhouse but a shed can still have so many uses as they got older.

I remember my friend at school had a shed and she was never short of anyone to play with. Her shed became all sorts of things in our games...

I had a shed as a kid and I loved it. Also had a huge tent on the front lawn for a summer and loved that too. It had a telly in and everything!
