to think that using sugar daddy websites and paying the woman money for it / accepting that money is a form of prostitution?

I'm afraid I do have my judgy pants on here. I can't seem to get them off.

The title sums it up really. Women who offer their company to men / men who seek that company / substantial monetary gifts being given = prostitution doesn't it? Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the service sold has to explicitly be sex before it can be labelled as such.

And in answer to the inevitable 'so what?': nothing really. Just trying to get my head around this and perhaps remove my judgy pants in the process. I'm sort of wondering why actual sex workers are criminals when if 'sugar babies' aren't.

Actual sex workers aren't criminals per se in the UK.

LapsedTwentysomething Thu 11-Jun-15 21:13:29

Ok but they are criminalised.

It is illegal to solicit for custom in the street, and it's illegal to run a brothel, but selling (and buying) sex is not illegal, even in a brothel.

why do you have to get your head around it? why does it bother you?

LapsedTwentysomething Thu 11-Jun-15 22:31:42

For reasons that affect someone I'm trying to support.

Would the use of the website not equate to soliciting? I suppose not since the sex is only implied.

It was decided some years ago that, for the purposes of prostitution, the interwebz don't count as "a public place". It does seem a strange thing, but I think the point was that you'd have to search for prostitution sites, whereas IRL you might inadvertantly wander into a red light district.

So your pal is a sugar babe, and doesn't consider herself a prostitute. You, however, think she is? Have I got that the right way round?

LapsedTwentysomething Thu 11-Jun-15 23:05:55

No! Neither the sugar babe nor daddy are friends of mine, which I think clouds my judgement on this further. I can't help but think of it as a naice sex industry.

My ex boss met up with a woman on this site. She had a very 'professional ' sounding name. They soon moved in together she changed her name back to her original normal one and they seem very happy.

HirplesWithHaggis Thu 11-Jun-15 23:12:33

Well, it is "naice sex industry". The women are prostitutes, however they describe themselves. So are "courtesans" and the ubiquitous "escorts", most of whom never escort anyone further than the shower.

As a plus, sugar babes are unlikely to be forced or trafficked, and most likely to be "consenting". Their bodies to do with as they please, surely?

My friend did this, made a shed load of money. Barely slept with anyone (she was very choosey. My step mother did the same. It isn't for me but I wouldn't judge someone for it. They're in control, they call the shots.

I'm trying to imagine what "barely" sleeping with someone involves. grin

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes: A man being rich is like a girl being good looking.

People choose their partners for all sorts of reasons. I think it's possibly more honest than hanging around city bars looking for chinless boring banker and pretending that you love him for his good looks and sparkling humour. At least these women are upfront about their intentions.

Assuming your friend is the wronged wife then I think the issue is with the morality of an affair, not the motivation for it.
