Cause they haven't a clue on how to change it and think it's standard (yes looking at you FIL Grin

My mum has it. I turn it off when she's not looking but she always manages to turn it back on despite denying knowing how to use the damn thing!

because perhaps they don't trust the touch screen and need that little confirmation that their type has been registered?

not me, that's the first thing i turned off on my new phone. drives me fucking scatty Grin

Blush I do. Because when it is plugged into the car radio and I'm sat in the car I can tap out beats because the interference means a thud emits from the speakers.

If I hear that noise when I'm on the train I just know if I look around to see who's responsible it'll be someone over sixty, probably using an old Nokia rather than a smartphone. I always want to go over and tell them that you can turn that noise off.

IABU because I have it on on mine. I turn it off though if typing in public.

I justice to hear the noise as I type really fast and the noise confirms the key press without me looking at the screen.

I keep it. Means I know what I'm typing. Silent feels wrong.

And I'm nowhere near 60!

I do turn it right down when in company though.

Oh. And because then I can tell when my children are messing around on my phone...

silent just feels wrong though? I need to know the key has been pressed- especially as I usually text without looking at my phone too busy being nosey

A woman on the train recently was having a long conversation via text so her phone would loudly beep to signal a new message and then she'd beep-beep-beep while typing her reply, then the text tone would deafen us all again, then more beep-beep-beeps... I was ready to bodily remove her from the train after five minutes!

aaagghhhh drives me insane - any type of keypad noise - and the whistle one you mentioned! there's no need to have tones on whilst on a train etc - just have it on vibrate and you can feel it if anyone rings/texts rather than subject the whole carriage to it!!

Tick tick users should be summarily grabbed by the ankles and dragged along a rocky beach -one foot for every tick...

Argh yes I feel your pain with the cheerful whistle tone. One of the most aggravating sounds in existence.
