AIBU?

Baby with conjunctivitis

I took my 8 month old DD to a baby sensory class yesterday and put her in a little ball pool thing with a couple of other babies so I could take my coat and shoes off etc. Another mum came along and sat her baby next to mine and I noticed her eyes were bloodshot and stuck together slightly. I asked if she was ok and the mum said she had conjunctivitis! I took DD out of the ballpool straight away and made it clear that I was a bit pissed off.

My friend said I was overreacting and that babies are 'bound to pick these things up' but I would never in a million years take DD out if she had an infection or whatever.

Sorry I think YABU here.

There are various types of conjunctivitis and not all of them are contagious. You are not advised by the NHS to keep children off school if they have conjunctivitis either.

YABU it's hardly the plague! She would have had to touch the offending gunk and then her own eye. My DD gets it by rubbing her own snot in her eyes, your DD will get it at some point. Its no big deal.

Conjunctivitis is one of those things that really splits opinion.

In most cases, current advice is that there's no need to quarantine, or even treat it. Keep the eye clean and it will get better on it's own, but because, very rarely it can become quite serious some people get over excited about it.

I probably wouldn't have taken a baby to the group you describe, more for fear of a reaction like yours, than any real belief that I shouldn't IYSWIM. I wouldn't worry for my own DC in your situation, but I might have when pfb was 8mo.
